At 16:55 when Bryan explains checking the transmission fluid level, he meant to say "fill plug" rather than "drain plug." You will use the fill plug to both fill and check the level. DON'T take out the "drain plug" after adding fluid or it will all pour out on the ground lol.

Hey guys, just bought a M240i used, first registered Jun 2019. And it also has the B58 engine in, with the same setup for coolant reservoirs as you have. The main engine coolant reservoir was a little low on coolant so i got some from BMW yesterday (green for 2019 on) and a syringe and tubing to sample the reservoir since i could not actually tell if the coolant in there looked the same (some folks will use non BMW stuff, so best to check before adding). The coolant in the main engine reservoir was yellow, so not the green coolant BMW stated is used in B58s from 2019 on. It is clear and clean looking with no residues or particles evident (good news as i believe if there was oil from engine or transmision it would not be, similarly if there was a rust problem) and interestingly if you pass light through it at right angles to viewing direction it is bright green like the proper coolant. Would you say this colour change can happen to coolant over time where it will change colour like this? And also, being as the reservoir for the intercooler (smaller reservoir) contained green coloured coolant and was at the correct level, i assume the two systems are completely independent of one another, am i correct?
@See.M.Swervo10 күн бұрын
Wow. I’m going through the same thing but opposite I have like a yellowish green coolant in my low-temp reservoir. When I shine light in it as well it is green. Super weird I need to know how to drain the low-temp reservoir I did a flush over thr weekend but I only did the high temp.. I have the f30 340

Some job need extra or special tool to do it properly. Example good torque wrench. Modern cooling system due to very high efficiency heat exchanger using micro channel is best to use vacuum type refill kit to avoid small stubborn air bubbles pocket. At say 25 inch hg vacuum mentioned in this video, it is equal to as though as we are filling coolant at 12.5 psi positive pressure, but in the form of suction.
@justinbuice3 ай бұрын
BMW’s service documents state that the B58 coolant should “only” be replaced using a vacuum

Hey! At the very least you will need metric sockets, a set of both Torx and E Torx sockets, a torque wrench, and some sort of software that can interface with the car’s computers. A set of interior pry tools will be helpful too. I personally use BimmerGeeks ProTool which is an app you can get for android devices. I got a cheap tablet from walmart just to run ProTool. You will need this or something like it if you ever replace the battery. It can also show live parameters like how we were able to check the transmission temp in the video. You can also use it for programming if you change any of the electronics inside the car. For example i Installed a digital gauge cluster a few months ago and used ProTool to program it to the car. I also use an app called Carly which doesn’t have quite as many features, but it’s more convenient for me to use on the go since it works with iPhone.

After watching/reading various how tos regarding the transmission refill, apparently, after carrying out the procedure in the video one should either add 0.5 ltr extra of oil, or, run the transmission until the transmission cooler opens (75°C), then let the trans cool back down to 40°C, and recheck level. Obviously this depends on whether or not a cooler is fitted.

It’s a protective additive that reduces wear and tear on the engine.

There should be a class action lawsuit against BMW (& other manufacturers) for saying that the transmission fluid doesn’t get changed because that’s total crap (like my transmission). My 2009 BMW 1 series 128i convertible has transmission issues and only 116k miles. The previous owner never changed the fluid per BMW and now it shudders in 4th & 5th gears when I drive it in full automatic mode. If I manually shift it drives fine with no shudder. If there has been a schedule to change the fluid and the previous owner had it done this most likely wouldn’t be a problem. Now I’m screwed with a transmission that is not going to last very long. It’s a crime to not have a schedule to maintain it. I read up on this and found that there is no coolant flush, or trans flush, or diff flush or fuel filter that is scheduled by BMW. That’s criminal on the part of BMW. No wonder BMWs have so many issues. I’m sick of auto makers misinforming customers on these maintenance issues. BMW should be forced to either replace transmissions that have issues like mine or replace the entire car. Won’t ever buy another BMW ever again. Oh and good luck selling my car without replacing the transmission!
