Fluke 87v. Min max function can accurately test batteries on load and charging states. You can set, then walk away to actuate the circuit, scroll through the min max and average,plus it has analog bar for voltage sweep of potentiometers. And alot more. Bought from pawn shop almost new

Sears (If you can find one) sells a DC amp-clamp multimeter that is used for cars. (it was recommended by my alternator/starter guy). It runs about $59.99 off sale. It works great to check my battery and alternator.

Smart man. Fluke 88 is the standard, and designed specifically for the automotive mechanic. Mine is over 20 years old. I did recently have to replace the elastometer to fix the dim display which cost 25 bucks. The originals have a real nice owners manual with pictures of basic auto tests and heavy duty case. I have a coworker who just bought one but it did not come with a manual. He called the company and they sent one out. They said you have to request an owners manual now because they are a "green" company trying to save paper. LOL

Get a DC clamp meter mate. Better get one that goes down to 1mA resolution, so that you can just clamp around the battery without taking the battery leads off to test parasitic draw. I've thrown around my Uni-T UT210E AC/DC clamp meter around quite a bit and it's always been great and accurate. I just use it for the car and it has been amazing. I do use pretty expensive Fluke and Brymen meters for me electronics projects.

I have had really good luck with the innova 3220 meter. Not the greatest but for a cheap meter, it hasn't let me down yet. As for leads. Probe master all day long. I got a set for 15 directly from them and they have been awesome. Leads can make or break a meter.

I've not used my meter for any repairs on my car, but I tell you this... I've had 3 meters in 10 years. I had a generic one from China, a Fieldpiece, and a Fluke. The Chinese one and the fieldpiece lasted about a year each. The Fluke has lasted the other 8 years. Get a Fluke if you can and only buy it once. I use mine a few times a week as a plumber.

Have an expensive Fluke meter with some great features, but to be honest, I don't use it very often. The meter I use the most is the cheap Harbor Freight meter they sometimes give away. I think its priced around $6. You don't really need an expensive meter for automotive work. What do you think about the Harbor Freight battery tester? Do you own one? I think its called Cen-Tech Digital Battery Analyzer.

True RMS isn't a speed thing, it's for accuracy. RMS is a calculation for the Root Mean Square value of the AC voltage being tested, meaning its the equivalent voltage of a DC waveform. Without RMS your meter reads peak-to-peak voltage of the sine wave which gives a higher voltage reading.
@MrDeviousdom3 жыл бұрын
I just watched the video when I was going to write the same thing. Remember, RMS only applies to AC voltages. RMS meters can only accurately measure 60 cycle, sinusoidal signals. True RMS is able to accurately calculate RMS voltage regardless of the frequency, and regardless of the shape of the signal.
@corbettknowles99425 жыл бұрын
Don't quote me but if I'm not mistaken doesn't a hybrid battery have 305 volts when it's fully charged which is classified under high voltage so to be able to tell if your climb meter are you snap on meter will test at you need to know what your max limit for DC volts is

I don't think you understood my meaning on if your DMM is fast enough. A fuel injector is switched to ground for only a millisecond or two. A DMM can not switch from power to ground that fast.
@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway5 жыл бұрын
cfmcc83 Ahh ok, but with KOEO wouldn’t you have power on one side and ground on the other?
@IrishLizard445 жыл бұрын
@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway No. When the injector is grounded it opens and puts fuel in the engine.

@markhb33464 жыл бұрын
True RMS is useless in Automotive work . Only pertains to non true sinusoidal waves , but the 3phase Motors uses in hybrids and EVs are converted DC to a very choppy AC so it would be great for that application .

continuity is crap when you do not understand it. test for ohms instead that will show you that a cicuit(or part of) which shows continuity actually is so corroded that it eats all your volts, thus circuit is NOT ok!
