That's pretty much how her other band Dead Sara is too. They have some songs like Monumental Holiday where she's practically screaming the whole time (song reminds me a lot of Nirvana's Territorial Pissings), then others like Something Good that are more like this one. LP even did this over time too. For all the fierceness of Chester's screams he had one of the sweetest voices. I think Emily is a perfect fit for the band's 2nd chapter.

@jackgolden500627 күн бұрын
Actually Linkin Park has always been a pretty diverse and challenging Band. After Meteora they realy went in all direction with "minutes to midnight" as an alt rock album, with "a thousand suns" an experimental electro album, that totally scraps every exception you can have as a writer, "living things" as an very e-rock album, "hunting party" an almost garagy album and "one more light" as an pop album. Honestly Linkin Park are in my regards on the same level to me as the beatles in terms of influence for me. I mean without Mike Shinoda's videos of his production streams, I wouldn't produce as good as I do. That man is a sound design genius...
@BreadPandaTube26 күн бұрын
It's a really hot take, but I have no problem with your comparison of Linkin Park to The Beatles. We're talking about bands that (a) found massive commercial success with mainstream audiences, whilst also (b) maintaining a freedom to evolve, invent, pioneer, and make something you haven't heard before. Many bands can do (a) OR (b), but to do BOTH is something special.
@mbg404126 күн бұрын
The Beatles?!? Really?!? That is not a flattering comparison for LP. Even if you severely limit it only to influence it’s still not even a comparison. The Beatles influence generation after generation of musicians, LP had massive influence over one generation. If you look at composition, melodic complexity and novel chord progressions it’s even worse. The Beatles still hold the record for the most number one hits, LP had none (unless you look to the alt charts). I like some songs from both bands and I’m a fanboy of neither but there is no comparison. I’d like to say my favourite bands compare favourably to the Beatles too… but I won’t because no band does.
@BreadPandaTube24 күн бұрын
@@mbg4041 I feel like you might have misread the intent of my comment. I didn't say I was comparing them on "influence" nor on "composition, melodic complexity and novel chord progressions". Thank you for the incredible video! It was really fun to watch as a long-time Linkin Park fan and seeing how the song caught you by surprise, just like the band intended. Since you were hoping to hear from people why that might've happened, I'll try my best to offer you a TLDR version of the band's musical style history: 1) The soundscape that most people associate Linkin Park with goes back to their breakout era of their first two studio albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora (rap-rock, nu metal, or whatever variant of categorizing people prefer to use) 2) When creating their 3rd album, Minutes to Midnight, Linkin Park wanted to step away from the angsty-teenager-sound and come up with something more mature and classical alternative rock. It was at this point when their fanbase started to divide, since many people wanted them keep doing what they were doing, while others celebrated their ability to evolve in terms of musicality. 3) Their 4th album, A Thousand Suns, was a concept album, intended to be listened from beginning to the end, instead of as a collection of individual tracks. This point in time pushed the fanbase even harder into two segments, as the new album introduced yet more elements into the mix, such as EDM. It was the first time I remember hearing Linkin Park being played in nightclubs and raves. 4) With their 5th and 6th albums, Living Things and The Hunting Party, they took subtle steps back closer to their roots, sounding closer to what was universally loved by the entire fanbase, while still remaining experimental with their sounds and style and occasionally going even harder (or more "metal") than ever, so it didn't completely sound like "the old Linkin Park", but close enough to strip the haters of some ammo. 5) With their 7th album, One More Light, they went back to "you know what, we're gonna do what we wanna do, and it's up to you guys if you like it or not" mode, which was a combination of dark lyrics with very light and gentle sounds, almost to a pop-level. This caused the biggest backslash in the fanbase who said the band has gone soft and they're done. 6) Few years later the lead singer took his life and the band went onto hiatus for 7 years. 7) Now they're back with a new lead singer and drummer, they are mentally in a very relaxed place, and they essentially reinventing the band without forgetting where it came from. As always, the fanbase remains divided as ever, with one side being obnoxiously toxic and the other side embracing everything they do. Very dramatic but I'm here for all of it! Anyways, thanks again for a great video, and I'd love to see you cover more of Linkin Park in the future!

It was in a real basement bar type of venue and I was at the front of the stage. Her voice IS like that and she was really chill and nice both times we talked (once during the soundcheck and again after the gig was over and everybody but the über fans cleared out). At the soundcheck hang I showed her a pendant of the logo the band had during their first album and she was impressed. Her bandmates were thrilled. When everyone cleared out and I was able to get an another selfie with her, she had to duck down because I’m short and her boots added on like a foot. That was really genuine. I was really concerned Linkin Park was continuing but absolutely thrilled Emily was who they picked but as a Dead Sara fan a mild bit embittered because that band never REALLY got its chance. I’m glad I got to see them when I did when they had their original lineup in that basement. I’d like to meet Emily again and congratulate her.

Can't wait to hear the album. Emily is a perfect fit. Love her voice. And don't worry, most reactors only have the first 2 albums, if that much, that they reference as the classic Linkin Park sound because that's all they know. Linkin Park has 6 or 7 albums with Chester but people only compare the new stuff to the first 2 albums, "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora" lol. But Linkin Park is no stranger to changing their sound with every other people. When you listen to the second single, "Heavy is the Crown," you'll hear the "classic" LP sound you were thinking of. It's a heavier song with Mike doing his thing, spitting bars. As others have already said, LP changed their sound with every successive album. only slightly to begin with, but they were constantly experimenting. The loss of Chester was a hammerblow that I never expected them to recover from as a band. I expected Mike Shinoda & Joe Hahn to continue on with other projects and draw a line under Linkin Park. But now, they're back. Emily Armstrong is an absolute powerhouse performer who can belt out the back catalogue with gusto, whilst still being versatile enough to surprise with tracks like this. I'm surprised that the fanbase seems so divided over Emily; it seems she has links to Scientology which has annoyed/disturbed some people... But so what? She's a great vocalist, I like what I've heard so far and I'm happy that the Linkin Park journey continues.

A frontman's replacement always brings controversy. It happened when Queen chosed Adam Lambert, they received critics from some fans. In Spain there is the story of a rock band, from latest 70s, their name is Triana. The frontman died in a car crash, and one of them (they were 3) wanted to follow with the band looking for another frontman, and the other one didn't want. So the one who wanted decided to follow by his own, and looked for new members. They ended up in a trial, and the judge said that he could go on using the band's name because he was a founder member. I think that the only one who could replace you in JHRA is The Hoff 😂

Your one-dimensional image of Linkin Park is their first album, Hybrid Theory. It was a production style and aesthetic so clear that Mike Shinoda just did it over on their second album, Meteora. You should have reacted to one of the other two songs they’ve released since the reformation because this track is by far the least “Linkin park” sounding track out of the three But I agree they made the right choice by moving on with a new vocalist It’s been 7 years since chesters passing, they did an awesome memorial concert with a ton of guests back in 2017. Mike shinoda (co-lead vocalist and pretty much the mastermind behind linkin park) put out a solo record called “post-traumatic” that dealed heavily with the loss of Chester, he did a world tour with it so he could share the music with the fans and mourn together. They’ve put out awesome 20 year anniversary editions of their first two records with a ton of awesome content like DVD’s with live concerts, bunch of demo’s and previously unreleased songs, vinyls, cd’s, pictures, posters, stickers, artwork etc. Earlier this year they’ve put out a greatest hits compilation with some previously unreleased tracks included They did all of this over a 7 year period before reforming with the current line-up. They did a wonderful job honoring Chester and keeping his legacy alive. We’re now ready to move on, emily is a very capable singer, new album is on the way, and they’re going to be touring a lot next year. I’m 100% here for it. I’m happy for the fans to finally have a chance to see linkin park play live again Even though it will never be the same without Chester, the songs he sang on will forever be part of music history. After having watched every live show they’ve done since september 5th and watching live performances of dead Sara and listening to a bunch of dead Sara music I’m now 100% convinced Emily has what it takes Nobody can replace Chester so I’m glad they went with a girl who can do her own thing instead of some dude doing a Chester immitation That’s what tribute bands are for

If I heard this randomly I would never have associated it w/ LP. I think Chester had a very recognizable voice. I personally find it hard to listen to music with vocalists who took themselves out while young; if nothing else, the story of LP won't end w/ avoidable loss.

A goodbye to Chester? By your reaction and brief video clips. I still day AC/DC is not because Bon died. Your comments about replacing members etc actually made me think, i thank you for that perspective. Chester haf a voice you can't replace, we all have a choice, continue to supporting the bands new lineup or don't listen. I'll wait and see how i feel. Im still not over Chester being gone.

There are songs from Minutes to Midnight, Thousand Suns, Living Things, Hunting Party, and OML that share at least some aspects with this new song. Mike has said in interviews that most of the songs on the new album pull a little inspiration from each era of their previous work with new ideas and insight added to the mix. Then you throw in Colin who is a well respected and accomplished producer and writer who brings a whole new bag of influence. And finally, you add Emily who in my opinion, is one of the most raw and emotional vocalists ever, see her Dead Sara discography, the dynamics change a little more. I really think this new album coming on Nov 15 will be massive. When asked their favorite songs on the album, Colin and Emily both replied with 3 songs we have not heard yet.

Do you know which 3 unreleased songs on the album they said? I'm looking forward to "Cut the Bridge" "Causality" and "Overflow" I just have a feeling these ones (out of the remaining unreleased songs on From Zero) will be a few of the best on the album.

Its definitely not a bad thing but im really excited to hear the new topics that will get covered with Emily's voice and perspective. Super excited for the new album.

LP have such a radically diverse discography, I don't think it's a stretch to refer to them as a Progressive band (Especially looking at albums like "A Thousand Suns"). The 'nu-metal' sound is something they basically left behind 2 decades ago.

I had to close my eyes to listen to this song at first. Twenty years ago I crawled out of an 80 mph rollover that flipped five and half times then slid on the roof. I thought I was over the experience... But I guess with the added emotions of Emily and the loss of Chester. This hit really fucking hard.

Hi Justin and Jenny! I recently started experimentation with AI music generation and could hear several generated voices resembling singers that are no longer with us. This could well be one way acts adapt to losing a band member in the future. I am conflicted using the tools, it's mostly fun until people lose their career. I can recommend a good example if you want to try a reaction, I can't place the source in the AI training data but you have one of the best ears for this.

I'm surprised you aren't permanently bedazzled by now, Justin. You should review the song "GMF" by John Grant. I enjoyed it playing in the background. Anyway, You need some bedazzled PJ's if you don't have them! Didn't listen to Linkin Park, but I'm glad they are continuing. The Who didn't stop, the Rolling Stones haven't either, though maybe they both should have, by now. The guys in Linkin are young-ish...why quit? Emily has a great voice. They chose very well, IMO!

I loved the original lineup, but I also love Emily taking the vocalist helm now and I think she's doing a great job. Wherever you go, haters are gonna hate and moaners are gonna moan, because it's what they're happiest doing. It's not disrespecting Chester's memory, it's just diverging off the original path a bit.

I dont think she cuts it live especially, she struggles to match Chester, that coupled with the controversy makes her an odd choice. Also just comparing to the many female rock/metal vocalists in the scene today, she really isn’t one of the best or bringing anything that’s new or inspired to the band

lucky enough to see them at the O2 recently they were awesome Emily total package Chester's passing was very sad but why should the rest of the band not continue? Maybe the Bennington families concern is more monetary based as they won't be getting a share of the royalties when this album inevitably goes stratospheric LP selling out stadiums already again as the legend that is Biff Byford said the Band plays on ..🤘

Well only people from Bennington family that had problem with that was his son and mother. The thing is that his son is pain in the arse to anyone - his own mother have distanced from him, and his mother... well we kinda know little bit of what was Chesters childhood was. So those two just neded their two minutes of fame for last time. Their words are really not worth of listen. On the other hand Chester's widow wife was among the people that was sharing that famous/infamous countdown from begining and among first that congratulated Emily (she send some heart emogies under some of Emily's instagram posts). So it is safe to say she knew what is going on and she was OK with it.

I would urge you to dig into some of Linkin Park's back catalogue. I understand the sentiment that they seem like just another rap-rock style nu-metal band, but both their music and lyric writing is quite amazing at times. They get really experimental on a lot of their non-single tracks, and even their mainstream singles have layers worth digging into. My favourite album, A Thousand Suns, is a concept album on inequality, class struggle and nuclear war, and is downright fantastic.
@TroyDashiell27 күн бұрын
Starting with their third album, LP started introducing rock ballads like this one. If you don’t really listen to them, you probably only know them through their most popular songs from their first 2 albums. Those songs were very heavy and angsty with a lot of harsh vocals and screams. The final album with Chester was pretty much straight pop rock with some heavy stuff. So completely understandable why you would think this was a different sound for them.
