After watching a number of your videos, I'm convinced you're the absolute best of the best. So wish I could find someone with your knowledge here in SW OH; have tried but no luck thus far. Instead, as a former stylist, taught my daughters to color it and trim the bottom of the back... and they do an excellent job; the layers I do myself and have picked up some amazing, updated techniques from your videos that are excellent. Thank you for the videos and your presentation style. Gorgeous home!!! PS. Am cursed with a very rectangular face but blessed with super lush hair that will do anything. Have to laugh, that's the universe keeping me humble... the here comes aging and all the challenges that go with it. Wah!

As I've aged I have went from an oval.gacr shape to a more rectangular face shape. I have a cowlick in my.bangs and back when I had bangs I struggled with styling. So I haven't had bangs in over 30 yrs. But as I've aged I would love to hide my forehead. So I would love to see a video on how to style bangs each day. For example on no hair wash days!

How cute, you! Your Northwest accent is all over this video. This may be the most-informative haircut video in the history bangs/fringe. I’m an oval-> oblong depending upon the same ten pounds that I’ve gained and lost a hundred times. I wear them longish, “curtain” style because they’re easier to pin back when I cannot stand them. A little tip of mine: remind your stylist if you have curly hair. Cutting bangs wet will not give you an accurate vision of what they’re going to be dry. (My stylist always cuts my bangs dry.) Justin, I’m in New Haven and I’m thinking of coming out to Portland to have you cut my hair. I told a few friends and their response was pretty-much the same: “if I was asked which one of my friends would travel across the continent to get her hair cut, it would be Libby Hussein.” So, maybe see you soon!
@justinhickox4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha!!! I LOVE it!!!! I’d love to have ya in!!! And thanks for sharing that tip! VERY true!! Wet bangs (especially curly hair) are AMAZING at shrinking up to about half their length when they dry! Lol! My next video about bangs will actually include tips on how to cut them at home and that will ABSOLUTELY be a KEY point I make! :)

Justin, I'm a new subscriber, thank you so much for your videos, I have bangs, with most of the hair being the result of hair transplant procedures for a quite receding hairline, more on one side than the other. It's so important I think, for hairdressers to realize that head shape and hairlines also factor into how the hair will fall, or that the hair on one side of the head may not be as thick as on the other side of the head. Not everyone has a perfectly symmetrical face, one ear could be higher than the other, or one eyebrow higher than the other, many factors can play into what will work and look good. Wish you were close by, I'd have you cut my hair for sure, I'm from Ontario Canada. Kindest regards to you and thank you again!

That's an informative video!! Please plan a trip to India. I can host you and your family in our house but promise me haircut 😀 I watched couple of videos of yours and found them to be very informative. I stumbled on your video while trying to figure out how to cut my bangs without going to the saloon. My hairstylist instructed me not to try it on my own at home as it will ruin but after looking at the increase in number of positive cases, I'm kinda sure that it's going to take another couple of months for situations to become normal again. . . So instead of waiting thought I'll explore it myself and made up my mind that even if I make a mess, my hair will grow in couple of months and I can fix it with the help of the stylist.

Hi :). I just wanted to tell you that I learned something I had never heard before during this video. You mention your nose being the center of your face/maintaining symmetry .... it helped me to understand why I feel better with shorter bangs and some volume at the top of my head ... those two things do put my nose smack dab in the center which is why I feel better that way I guess ... it just looks “right” to my eye. Huh. Thank you so much 😊!

Thanks for the feedback Lindy! I would agree with you there. Unfortunately, it’s surprisingly hard to find photos I’m allowed to use without spending hundreds of dollars per video. I actually spend 4-5 hours on average looking for photos for a video like this that illustrate my points. Finding photos of before and after like that.....not even sure I would be able to without finding models that would allow me to just cut bangs on them....which is a whole new challenge. :) I do appreciate your feedback though!

Great Video!! Confirmed that I’ve been wearing the correct style bangs. I had brain surgery and the surgeons shaved my head - luckily in the bang area. However - they shaved more hair than `I already had in bangs. So now my bangs a a bit too thick. A pain but I think I looked better with wispy bangs so need to grow out. I had wispy right below eyebrow and round to blend into my side layers.

Thank you 🙏. For the tip to lay something flat on your hair to check out where your bangs, actually, really are. You have no idea what you gave me….and that: after three years of the most nightmare razor cut ever….On my birthday! I will for ever be grateful to you: it worked! You have no idea how difficult my hair is. I am cutting my own bangs since I was 12 years old. Most of the time it did work out. But when it went wrong. It really went wrong. Lately, I was in the same situation, based on the fact that my, seriously fine hair had a razor cut from the top of my head down. I have incredible challenging hair. Nobody knew what to do with It anymore. I know the secret: my hair needs to be cut very carefully layered; out of my bangs. In a surrounding way. It all start with my bangs. Seriously. After that razor haircut nobody ( and I do have good hairdressers. I just wanted something new 😾😿), knew where it exactly was. So, I did it myself, like I used to do when I was younger. Yesterday I thought I was close. I do finally have the length. It didn’t work out. Last night I couldn’t sleep and saw one of your video’s in my feeds. And kept watching others. When I found your video on cutting your own bangs… This morning I did it , and thought “ you already did cut it shorter than the boundary you have at this point , you just really destroyed all you’ve won” : and it worked! You have no idea how great full I am. You Rock! Thank You 🙏. Best birthday present ever! ( especially at this age ) Thanks again 🙏. God bless you.

Bangs for me, have basically acted as my private security blanket for the majority of my life... no matter how long or short my hair is, as long as I have my (longer, thick) bangs - I'm good. I also do have a very long, oval shaped face & honestly, some bangs do not work all that well. Once had bangs cut way too short (dry, sat well above eyebrows - as curly hair tends to dry much shorter than straight hair) & I cried myself to sleep every night until they grew back out! 🙄 I would love though, for somebody to address the challenge of bangs for naturally curly hair. I've always blown my hair out to be as straight as possible - which is another challenge when not chemically straightened, esp in more humid climates... Now that my age is becoming yet another issue, as graying now develops its own special/ impossible texture....

Oh, how I could benefit from your many years of experience and obvious expertise. My hair has grown butt-length and I've grown tired of dealing with the effort of washing, conditioning and working out tangles without tearing out huge chunks of fine hair. Unfortunately (and wouldn't you know it), you're located on the opposite end of the country. Know anyone near the Tampa/St. Pete area who's an artist I could trust to advise and give me on the best cut for an aging face?

I am enjoying your videos. This one did not have captions. I replayed the 2:46 mark several times but couldn't understand the word after, "So, if for instance, you are trying to say, cover up your (word?)....". Also, for me, after becoming a senior, I have gone back to bangs to add additional sun protection for my forehead and temples as I am very fair-skinned. Plus, I think they are more youthful looking. I loved your video on how to cut bangs as I had never really known how and have been wondering for several years. Thank you so much! Now, between stylist appointments if I need to make a snip, I can study your video again or play it as I trim until I get myself trained to do it correctly. I have an oval shaped face but it seems to me to be elongating somewhat with the years. Does that happen or is it my imagination? Thank you again for teaching me how to cut them!!

Btw as you told in the video about how someone can have attributes of two different face shapes, I've noticed that my face shape is a mixture of round and oval. Personally, I like heavy and thick bangs more, so will they suit me? As you told that they don't suit round faces but oval face shape is ideal for any types of bangs, I'm kinda confused. Need advice.... I've got a long, narrow, oblong/oval face and type 3b/c curls. The shape begs for bangs, but because it's so curly, I'm afraid to cut them. The shrink factor is huge so I'm worried it'll just look really weird instead of youthful and sexy, which is what I'd like. But I'm sooo tired of this all one length look I've got. I wear it like this caz I'm afraid to lose the weight, which helps keep the curls somewhat manageable and or easier to blow out.

As for the bangs, they definitely could be less convenient with the gear you have to wear but you could also clip them back with pins during work if you need to and have them down when you want to. It’s tough to say how bothered you’ll be by them. Personally I’d probably go for them if you really want to try them. You may love them....or pin them. ;)

What if u have a widows peak & u want bangs? Is it possible?
@justinhickox4 жыл бұрын
Great question, yes it’s possible. It’s just going to require the right length and how you stylet is going to come in to play. There are a few factors in this scenario but they can definitely work.

Could you give some advice to a person who has very short hair on the top of her head that won’t grow any length to help my oval face. Can I blow it dry into messed look and try to piece it out?

I have acne and thick hair and I have gotten bangs before and I really liked them but would it look weird if I got wispy bangs with the rest of my thick hair and would bangs affect the acne on my forehead?
@justinhickox4 жыл бұрын
This is a great question. It really depends on how wispy you’re thinking. Depending on your head shape even if you cut your bangs super wispy you might find that more hair falls over your bangs and won’t stay off your face. If you watch my video about how to cut your bangs at home you’ll see how to determine how much of your hair will actually react as bangs. Depending on how strong the growth your hair has you may or may not want to do super wispy. If you can do them it would be fine. It would be enough to break up the forehead. As far as acne, it would depend on how much you play with your bangs in touch your forehead which would deposit oils from your Hands onto your forehead as well as how early your hair is. If your scalp produces a lot of oil in your hair gets really oily it could have someone affect.

I'm a heart shaped face. I like my face shape lol. I was called "devil chin" as a kid because of pointy chin, (Mom gave me the wrong hair style for my face as a kid, didn't help) but it didn't bother me that much. But I do have a dumb cow lick in my bangs! Every time my bangs grow a little too long, it just looks really bad. I've tried keep my bangs in a barrette and/or braid as it dries but it's not much help. Any suggestions?

Hi Justin, I just found your channel recently, do you have any suggestions for a good hairstyle to camouflage a weak chin?

Justin, could you please tell me the way to repair bangs the next day? I'm dealing with some natural curl next to the scalp. I've been using a 1" curling iron, slightly heated, then holding it down to get a straighter line. Thank you so much!:)

My jaw is wide and I’m fleshy on my neck. I have grey curly and a little frizzy hair. Sigh. I find that having height height helps so that why I tend to like some kind of bang. But just not sure how to deal with my neck and jaw. Help!

I feel crazy. I can’t figure out my face shape anymore. When I was younger I had a heart shape but now I am 60 years old and it’s kinda heart but idk, can anyone help me? Here are my measurements - forehead is 5 to 5 1/2, cheekbone is 6, jawline is 5 1/2 and face length is 7 1/2 . I have a barely pointed chin now, but it is a softer than point but not round. Help??? Please. Oh ,also I have always had that peak on my forehead. My mother loved it because her or my sisters did not.
