Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery - Ram 2500 in a Mud Pit - X-lock used with snatch block!

May 22nd 2021, a team of 5 from Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery went up in the Pingree Park area to retrieve a Ram 2500 Cummins from a super soft mud hole.
We are in full spring melt mode here and there are little springs popping up all over the forest this time of year making roads that are normally passable extremely soft in spots.
Our first attempt at pulling with just two vehicles running 2:1 winch reduction yielded both rigs being pulled forward as the stuck truck exceeded the weight of the two power wagons (approximately 9000 pounds curb weight).
After anchoring both vehicles to two more, the stuck 2500 was eased right out of the hole. We assisted the owner in clearing the brakes of debris while he worked on clearing the easy to get mud from under the truck, and the mission was complete!

I always open my hood so the hardware doesn't fly through the winsheild while winching. I'm also going to try and use R.V. rubber chaulks for my wheels when pulling. I never leave my truck in park. It pulls on the trans park pin.

we did some math on the friction of a parked vehicle, you can basically divide the weight by almost 2 to slide a vehicle on dirt. so we had 34,000 ish pounds of tethered anchors providing 17,000 pounds of planted weight on dirt, and that truck finally started to come out of the mud hole. recovery was calc'd at about 15,000 pounds to break that suction, and that seems to be pretty accurate with our planted weight.

I enjoy the videos, and appreciate watching you work. I'd love more explanation of what you're doing, what equipment you're using, and why. You walk up, see the situation, and go to work. What if you talked us through what you saw, what the risks are, why you put equipment where you do, etc.? I'd greatly appreciate that. Either way, thanks man!

Nice video again Justin! One little remark: the audio level inside the Jeep is much lower/softer than at the recovery site. It is hard to understand what you say on the way to and from the job.

Yes that is a problem with the go pro padding the audio from the tire noise. I edit out the bass hum in premiere, but when I listen to the audio is even across the video on my speakers. Been fighting this for a while. Might have to try a lav mic in the future in the cab.

I recommend a new 2 gallon hand pump herbicide spray container with slightly drilled out nozzle. Use it for showers and washing off crude and camp fire extinguisher

Yeah, I oversized it for my heavy winter coat. If I wear the GoPro on top it won't do that, but then I can't easily take the vest off. I might pick up a smaller vest for summer.
