I think you should qualify your statement about cost when comparing the Adotec to the Ursack. Adotec offers the Grizzly Bear Resistant Bag at $155, which has 14L and is rodent resistant. Ursack does offer the Major at $110, but it's 10L and isn't rodent resistant. For a comparable offering from Ursack that does offer rodent resistance, you'd need to get the AllMitey, which comes in at $170 for the 10L or a whopping $230 for the 20L. I think when comparing similar capability bags, it's a no-brainer to buy the Adotec, which in fact is CHEAPER, lighter, and waterproof.

@@DarthVirtus I've seen too many porcupines and pine martens chew through some truly crazy things to believe it is rodent resistant until i have seen evidence. But I am inspired to conduct my own tests now!

In summer, wider-mesh base layers like cyclists use in summer (Castelli etc) are actually helpful under a sun hoody. The mesh on the Brynje options is too closely spaced for summer.

Justin, this is becoming a habit: this is yet another excellent roundup. You prove that it is possible for KZbin vids to be high quality without sucking up to vendors. Thank you. Re: bear bag: I would not count on it remaining waterproof after a bear gets ahold of it. It is still a good idea to use smell proof bags inside to avoid the problem in the first place.

The mesh base layer is nothing short of spectacular in cold weather, I wear one under my Kevlar long sleeve t-shirt with gore tex jacket on my motorbike in winter and it keeps me nice and toastie and you really do forget you’re wearing it. Only icy driving wind where the cold is constantly pressed against you defeats it but having a heated gilet to hand solves that one.

Still at the point I can't justify many of these tents out right now. This Arc-Dome stripped down but keeping the stakes (kind of needed) is a 3.55lb tent. My Marmot 2 person Tungsten UL is 3.7375lbs (measured weight). Just can't fathom spending 600 bucks to save 3oz.
@steveh5169
@steveh5169 16 сағат бұрын
Since you already have a marmot tent, they have the superalloy 2 or 3 person tent, which has been discontinued, both for under $300, the 2 person is under 3 pounds, the 3 person 3 lbs 6 ounces.
@JustinOutdoors
@JustinOutdoors 15 сағат бұрын
The Tungsten UL is a really well rounded great tent but in a different category than the ArcDome. You wouldn't be spending $600 to save 3oz, you'd be spending $600 to have significantly improved stormworthiness at the same-ish weight.

An xmid2, xmid2 pro, or gossamer gear the two (or the Lanshan gear equivalent) would be the real upgrade for you man. Or a solo like the smd lunar solo or zpacks soloplex. But since you’re in a 2 person I assume you value space.

The Arata AX 130 is just over 1kg for a seemingly truly capable 2p bomber tent for ridge camping. I’d love to see you start dabbling into other lesser known tent brands across the world in Asia such as Pre Tent, Arata, and The Free Spirits. Not much info on them but look like competitive options.

I tried out the Neoloft briefly. It is comfortable and smaller than you would probably expect for that comfort. That said, having put it next to the Xlite NXT, BA Rapide SL< Tensor All-Season, it is definitely bigger when packed. It was on par with the Exped Dura 5r. A side by side may be helpful for viewers. Always trade-offs....

As a Canadian, in my opinion, I think you should partner with “Geartrade”, instead of GGG. (Geartrade is fast becoming the GGG of the north! And it’s practically in your backyard!)

I'm always open to partnerships with quality brands (I've been by their shop a couple times and Geartrade falls into that category) but sometimes it doesn't make sense for the brand.

I have decently long eyelashes too and have encountered that problem. An interesting side-benefit of the Ombraz is you can loosen the strap a bit and decide where on your nose the glasses sit. I find it's super helpful for butterfly kisses and ventilation.

Just received my NeoLoft (REI exclusive until the new year, so as a Canadian had to ship it to a border pickup box, but I did benefit from the membership Black Friday discount - thankfully enough to offset most of the sting of the CAD dollar right now. I see MEC is already set up to sell it for 2025!) I went with the regular-wide (5'8" woman but tend to side-sleep with one knee out perpendicular to my body, and measuring butt to knee I'm about 26.5" so the 26" size of the wide is great!) At first I was afraid I'd gone 'too far' in the search for comfort - it's a chonky heavy pad (without pump sack, measured 844.4g on my scale in its stuff sack), especially compared to a lot of my other pads - but while it weighs considerably more than my Reg Wide XTherm Neoair (685g), it actually packs down smaller! As a bike camper, I privilege packing size almost more than weight, so this was a welcome surprise. It also seems exceedingly comfortable - have yet to spend an actual night on it, but that soft stretch top feels like a game changer. No crinkle, and no water-bed feeling of displaced air being pushed around because my hip just quietly sinks into the fabric.

I recently purchased the Adotec Grizzy Bear resistant bag. It's amazing how much lighter it is than the Ursack, and is waterproof. It costs less than the Ursack, not more, so this video is incorrect. It's $155 for a 14L Bag (if bought directly from Adotec), compared to $170 for an 11L Ursack All Mitey bag. Garage Grown Gears prices are much higher for the Adotec bag. Be sure to get the Adotec grizzly bear resistant bag, not the black bear resistant bag.

On the Adotec website, Ursack website, and GGG, I'm seeing $155 USD for the Adotec Grizzly Bear Bag and $125 for the Ursack XL.

@@JustinOutdoors Oh ya, so the Adotec bag costs the same in both places. But the Adotec bag not comparable to the Ursack XL, as the Ursack XL is not rodent resistant . The Adotec bag is rodent resistant($155), so a fair comparison is to the smaller Ursack All Mitey ($170)

@@JustinOutdoors I asked Adotec about how they tested for rodent resistance. Their response: "We tested it by leaving it full of tasty treats in the woods for 1 week. We checked on it periodically. There were lots of little prints around it and a few muddy prints on the bag, but other than that it was completely intact."

Some great info there and I am pleased that the Thermarest Neoloft gets such high praise as that is likely to be my next pad. 2 questions, do you know when it may become available in the UK? I believe REI have a 2024 exclusive (may have been you that told me that on another video) but that doesn't mean it;s coming any time soon. Also, can you confirm if it'll work with the current Zenbivy sheets as I plan on buying one of their products once I have seen the new Trek and Overland options. I still think it's pointless using one of those micro pumps when for a tiny bit more weight and size you get a very good pump that includes a light as well (Flextail). Those glasses make me laugh... solving a problem that really doesn't exist... What's wrong with the basic, adjustable glasses cords that have been around for year? Or even a small section of 3mm elasticated round cord that could be attached or tied to ANY set of glasses and costs pennies. I like that ArcDome... I'll be interested to see how the X-Dome 2 stacks up once it comes out.
