I know I was not of legal age to drive when the tour supporting this record happened. I'll admit, I was a bit of a hoodlum, raised in garages and driving in a late model stock car at 12. I stole the neighbor's car and drove 1/2 way across the country to see them in New York. Totally worth it! My Rob Halford related hearing loss is a warning to.younger generations...wear the damn earplugs!!

In my humble estimation, Rob Halford is the greatest of the metal front men. SFV is my favorite JP album as well. Hellion and Electric Eye are excellent songs. Electric Eye has come to be quite prophetic.

When this tour came to my city, It was nationally broadcast on a live radio show called the King Biscuit Flour Hour. I know it’s a weird name, but they were hard Rock sponsors back in the day. So we were LIVE on the radio on this tour. One of JP’s favorite cities (Halford has said this more than once), my city, San Antonio TEXAS. We had a day one relationship with them and they ALWAYS came here. Other bands early on too. RUSH for one. These guys have said this publicly more than once. We were day one fans and they never forgot our hardcore loyalty. Ok, Now I’m bragging. Wouldn’t you if RUSH said how much they enjoyed your city? 18 times live with them. Unbelievable I did all that.

Kerry King, Slayer' guitarrist, said a lot of times that Judas Priest is among their greatest influences, they even did a cover of Dissident Aggressor from Priest' Sin after Sin album (1977) and Priest' Stained Class album (1978) is his favorite metal album ever. Check out Beyond the Realms of Death from Stained Class, it's like Fade to Black before Fade to Black, Cemetery Gates before Cemetery Gates. Judas Priest is some kind of metal Beatles, they're behind everything

I was introduced to music when I was 12 to 14 years old & my older brother, along with his amazing record collection, lived in the basement while going to university. "Screaming for Vengeance" was his only Priest album. What a revelation it was to listen to this album for the 1st time! I was very excited by this discovery, so I bought "The Best of Judas Priest" through Columbia House right away! I was shocked by how *different* it was from "Screaming for Vengeance". Soon, I grew to appreciate those early Priest tracks, & Priest became my favorite band, tied with Zep for quite a few years. You mentioned about possibly listening to all of their albums chronologically. I think that's a great idea. I think that their 1st 9 albums, spanning '74 to '84, are all excellent albums through which one can witness a significant part of the evolution of metal. Some of these albums are *masterpieces*, IMO. Their 1st album, "Rocka Rolla", is not highly regarded by many fans. I have to admit that the production is not great, & one might find some of the songs a bit out of place in Priest's catalog. However, there are some great songs on the album, & it's fascinating to see how they set to work on their contribution to inventing heavy metal. "Run of the Mill" is KK Downig's 1st composition as a member of the band, & it happens to be one of my favorite songs, if not my favorite, *full stop*. Having said that, the mix of this song from the compilation album "Hero, Hero" is certainly superior to the one from "Rocka Rolla". Enjoy!

This was the last Priest album I loved. Being eighteen had a lot to do with it. They had moments after this but a ton of filler on the later records. This was the absolute peak of metal in 1982

Hah, this was the last Priest album I really liked for quite a while too, and I was also 18 in 1982, so you may be right! (I know it's a minority choice but I have more recently come to love Nostradamus, so it's not been a permanent endpoint.)

Priest has a very diverse catalog of music. Some really old stuff is more commercial than the rest. Each album can be so different due to the time period but always great.

This was a huge metal album for metal, Another Thing Coming was a big commercial hit. I think you need to see more live Priest- try Sentinel live from 1986 Fuel for Life. Another early Priest you should watch is Sinner from Live Vengeance 82.

It's not about solos it's not about Slayer - It's about "SCREAMING FOR VENGENCE" and Rob Halford hit the high notes beyond imagination, and it flew over your head. The year is 1982 and Screaming for Vengeance was my true introduction to Judas Priest and they "poured my everything into that song. Can you get that? Do you understand that? It was the summary of my life to that point, and I was (right or wrong) "Screaming for Vengeance" What a time.

If you want to go chronologically their first album (Rocka Rolla) is pretty unlike everything else for the most part. My favourite track on it is Run of the Mill, but it's a long one! Up to you, really. You could just skip straight to Unleashed in the East...
@philstone3859
@philstone3859 2 жыл бұрын
Ok, you are getting into it. Aside from My excellent recommendation of the song, Riding On The Wind, the Hell Bent For Leather album is an all time Classic Hard Rock standard. At least to the people who know. Try the title track or The Ripper. Yes, this crazy English band wrote a Hard Rock song about Jack the Ripper. I could recommend so much more, but in due time. I know how you guys get onslaughts of suggested songs. I only recommend standouts, period. Yeah, that could just be my opinion, but I have mass agreement on my taste. Time tested stuff that almost everyone can agree on. I was there! I only suggest really strong songs. I guarantee this. Also, off that same album, Delivering the Goods and Running Wild. Out of all the so called JP fans I see commenting on YT, I’m kind of surprised that some of the younger, I’m guessing, don’t know of this album, or at least don’t talk about it. Like I’ve said before, it’s one of their earlier, very strong records that got them to the top. I don’t care who you are, you don’t know JUDAS PREIST until you’ve heard the entire Hell Bent for Leather album. I saw them in concert from early on (late 70’s to early 80’s) and then went to 18 of their tours over the next decades. I WAS THERE!!
