Personal favorite song of any band... the acoustic breakdown in the middle is golden.

🔥🔥❤Opeth ❤🔥🔥 You're probably thinking of the outro of Deliverance being the other cool ending to one of their songs that you've heard. I hope you'll keep listening and reacting as there is so much more incredible riffs and transitions to hear from the mighty Opeth.

I agree that some parts feel kinda meh and more like a "filler". But sometimes I think, that's what makes the parts after that only more awesome. It's like "enduring some pain" just so that the payoff afterwards is so much better. The growling is also another thing that most people I know have problem with and I totally get it. When I first heard Opeth, it was on a Prog Nation Tour with Dream Theater as headliner and I wasn't sure I'd like them. But then their music was just so creative, the clean parts were so beautiful and overall their songs just created such an amazing atmosphere every time, that they've become my favorite band since then. The growling grew on me after multiple listens and even today after ~15 years listening to them I still don't like some growling parts, but others I love or laugh about and the rest I can mostly ignore or like I've said above "endure", to have the part after that feel so much more awesome. But in the end it's also all just subjective and everyone likes other things so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Still glad that you like them for the most part and I'm looking forward what you have say to the other songs by them :)

This is one of their top 3 albums IMHO. The other two being blackwater Park and Still Life.

You are in the rabbit hole. My opinion is Blackwater, My Arms Your Hearse, Ghost Reveries, Deliverance, Still Life and Watershed in that order song after song is as good if not better than the last. ENJOY !!!

The drummer left after this and formed the prog metal group Soen. So so so worth checking out. Some of their stuff is like a more metal Pink Floyd - Lotus and Illusion. The earlier stuff is very Tool influenced - Savia. 🤘 Love this Opeth album

Don't worry. Most of my favorite songs started with a meh 😁. But then i keep coming back for some reason. After three listens something clicks and all make sense. Then you follow the lyrics and you're hooked forever, when you realize how amazing they are and how it fits perfectly to the songs. Cookie monster? Hey, internet serves you cookies all the time and you eat them. Stop whining and swallow it. 😁 It's an acquired taste 😎 Sorry, just kidding. Got carried away lol. Good shit...

This is great album. Probably my favorite with growls after Still Life which is my favorite. But prefer their newer stuff with all clean vocals. I hope someone recommended some newer stuff. Anything off Pale Communion but I’d choose Eternal Rains or River. The one thing that Opeth does very well is find a great riff that catches your ear. And then they play the shit out of it. Usually about 4 to 6 times too many. Lol. But at least the riff is good. His growls are a lot different today in concert vs old days. They are much more controlled and not as deep. I’ve seen some “vocal coaches” react and they say it looks healthy how he is using the fry voice so maybe he changed to save his voice. No clue.

But they almost never repeat riffs later on in the songs, ofc they should play them a few times in a row when they created such gold

It's great to see Opeth featured, but I'd love to see a few different songs. Everyone and their dog has reacted to this and it's not even the best song on the album. Something off of Watershed would be nice. Or Sorceress. Or Pale Communion.

Pale Communion is probably my second favorite album from them. Still Life is still my favorite. It’s the vibe of that album. I prefer the clean vocals over growls. So the new stuff fits me better.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I also feel like those are some good songs for a first listen, because they combine and show so many things that makes them Opeth. Afterwards I tend to recommend more stuff from later albums which I also requested btw. :) Spoiler: It's Burden and Faith in Others

I really liked some parts but I didn't like the way the growling was executed. Just my personal preference.

This band sounds so technical and good but the growling looses me. Would you want to hear growling in a Rush, Tool or Dream Theater song, NO! The lead singer has such a great sound for the music and some heavy dark vocals in place of the growling would be awesome but I think it takes away from the flow.

Actually the growling is perfect in the parts of the song it's in.
