Regarding the wobbly Dutch oven, if you market it towards camping/campers you might get some hits. When camping, Dutch ovens get used on uneven grates, and even down in the fire itself. They won't care about wobbling. Just a thought.

Cast iron that has been overheated warps and no longer sits flat. Set on a flat piece of glass or granite and see if it wobbles and spins like a top on a high spot. And the place you are most likely to overheat your cast iron is on an open camp fire flame or coals.

I remember my first return was a timex Indiglo watch and the lady said it didn’t work even though she showed pictures of it working. Long story short, she was asking for a partial refund and I insisted she returned it. She was MAD! She left me bad feedback that eBay removed only because her reason for the return was different than what she was saying in the feedback. When I got it back, it looked like she had worn it for years. 🙄😂 I had so much anxiety back then. I’m glad that didn’t stop me from reselling. Thanks for sharing your experiences. thanks for sharing some of these mistakes! Makes me feel so much better. I have the same mindset like you said, where I don't really get bummed out, just happy to learn from the mistakes. For the first time ever, I sent the wrong item to the buyer. I had several small different NWT hydroflask components. I sent 2 carry slings out instead of 2 sport caps like they ordered. I'm just thankful the buyer was very friendly. I just let him keep the two slings, refunded his order, relisted the 2 sport caps I thought I had sent out, and he re-purchased them. I told him to make an offer, and I counter offered even lower so I lost money on that too and shipped it out of pocket in a nice ebay 10x8x6 box... but I wasn't concerned about losing the slings or money on my sport caps, had to punish myself for that mistake and inconveniencing the customer! In theory he should hopefully at least leave positive feedback (hasn't yet lol).

That cast iron pot, I think I know what happened and it was the buyers doing. "Fast temperature changes aren't good for cast iron; the iron expands as it heats up, and retracts as it cools. In extreme cases, forcing this process to happen too quickly can cause issues like cracking or warping." says several cast iron companies. Me thinks someone didn't have enough knowledge about cast iron and damage it.
@LaurieAnnCurryАй бұрын
Yep
@crystalcole888Ай бұрын
I concur. If they don't know how to cook with cast iron and they try to cook with it like it's a regular pot, that's what happens. They probably unknowingly damaged it themselves. Or knowingly damaged it themselves and sent it back to you.

Hello and good morning! Let me start off by saying thank you for all the videos, but what I want to thank you for the most is the honesty behind this video in particular. As you mentioned, there are tons of videos out there focusing on all the highlights, but hardly any tell you the truth about the bad buys that a reseller can make. While watching this video, I really couldn't stop shaking my head yes and laughing out loud while saying, "Oh yeah, I've been there!" I've been a reseller for about 5 years now and i will still occasionally come home with an item of clothing that I thought was free of flaws to only find out that the stitching is coming apart on the shoulder or there's a stain that i didn't see in the store, it's maddening! I identified the most to the mistake of buying youth sizes, ughhhh! Every year I take inventory and i always have this small pile of kids clothing and shoes. I now take this pile and bundle it all together and sell it that way and that has been the best remedy for me. For the past couple of years I've been getting away from clothing and focusing more on hard goods, but that doesn't mean I don't come home with junk sometimes. To sum this up, it's a never-ending learning process, and it was great to hear of the mistakes that even a seasoned reseller like yourself can still make. Thank you again for the video and for the chuckles in the morning. Take care and happy holidays!

Your videos have been so helpful. My EBay sales dropped off starting in Jan. 2023 and went off a cliff in May. I have maintained 800 listings and not really changed much in what I do or sell. Clearly I need to think outside the box EBay is changing and I have not. One thing that has hurt me in the algorithms is I had an unusual number of returns in a 2 month period. I normally have 8 returns in a calender year and had 6 in 2 months. All were no error on my part doesn’t fit, don’t like , including one scam which I fought with EBay enough that I got reimbursed. I guess I will chalk it up to bad luck. I always try to think like a buyer all my items are photographed with a ruler, digital calipers when needed, photos on a scale (jewelry), etc. and I like to use US coin for perspective because so many people can not visualize what 1 inch looks like. I’m careful with condition descriptions knowing this can be one of the most problematic issues. Thanks for what you are doing to help us sellers

Have a similar cast iron and just by the looks it is likely an early 1900s to 1940s like mine; basically before anyone was too concerned if it sat perfectly flat. This style is meant to hang over a fire. Likely was bought by someone that didn't know anything about cast iron or they'd of realized this was to be expected. There are Facebook and Reddit communities that can help identify it further if you wanted; assuming there is some sort of makers mark or stamp on it somewhere.

possibly, but not always the case unless it's so old it has a gate mark. Warping can happen for rapid expansion due to high heat then contraction....open fire, setting in the snow after...that's what I like about really old cast iron is imaging the journey it was on before I got it.

So I got a EBay store but then EBAY started pushing everyone to have free shipping well then they took their fee out of the added shipping cost. I hardy made any money, then I had to pay sales tax at the end of the year because pay pal started reporting everything that came into my pay pal account that was from EBAY, well at the end of the year, I had to pay the sales tax on the shipping + what ever the items sold for. I sell larger items all the time because profits can be really good. My advice is to buy a box re-sizer (about $15-20) and reduce the package size. A matter of 1" can significantly alter the price. I had a package that was going to be about $60 to ship, but was able to shave off just 2" to the height and ended up costing just $12.

Adidas hockey jerseys are commonly faked. There are a lot of tells, but often the most obvious is the black piping on the inside back neck where “made in” and sizing info is located. Authentic are clean printing with clean stitching and the material is a fabric similar to rest of the jersey. Fakes will often have that black piping scrunched up, unevenly stitched, and the material itself looks plastic-y. Other things to look out for is unclean/uneven stitching in general, but especially on patches and incorrect internal tags on the inside side of the jersey.

My guess with the Birkenstocks is they were left in the sun and shrunk. Happened to a pair of Crocs here. That’s my best guess.

For those talking about donating it and writing it off with the IRS well this past year I noticed that they only deducted less than one percent off of what I owed so maybe that’s different for other people but it’s almost not worth the time with my taxes obviously I’ve noticed the same things with shoes after they’ve sat a long time even nice namebrand shoes are usually toast, especially if they’ve been in a hot storage unit. The glues are gone.

You can't write off a donation to Goodwill if you wrote off the cost of the item when you bought it. That would be double dipping.

I bought a nice pair of boots a few years ago. I bought them online. They are a well know brand, a desired brand. They are in the other room in the closet and I'm not getting up to see what brand they are, but they are a very respected brand. I bought these boots to wear to work because the lot I have to walk in is often wet and muddy and it's full of limestone rocks and all kinds of fill rock. Anyway, these expensive boots that cost maybe $85 or more are the most uncomfortable boots I have ever owned. I even put some good inserts in the shoes. I was walking like a 100 year old man, just walking in complete pain. I ended up just putting them in the closet. The boots look great but it's like walking right on top of the rocks in the lot. I felt like such a loser. It sucks getting old but is it me or doe the boots just SUCK? All I know is I got stuck with good looking boots from a well known label. OK, so I got up. The boots are Wolverine, the most uncomfortable boots I've ever tried to wear. I had to put them away. They are worthless to me.

Justin, might you produce a video about how and when you use Pirate Ship for label creation? Wondering when it’s wise to use it from your experience.

fits one size smaller because of the toe area being narrow ( space to top of toe ) and not stretchy

Hey I just want to say you are great and thank you for all the great info. On your cast iron pan that wobbles you can list it great for camping or camp outdoor fire cooking. I camp a lot and we use old cast iron for that. Thanks again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of great advice here! Trend analysis, you mentioned several times you lost money using your shipping policies. Perhaps it would be worth your time and effort to do calculated shipping on large and heavy items going forward to avoid those losses on shipping. Then you can allow shipping to HI and AK! 👍

Probably a good idea!

I live in Hawaii and have to watch what I buy in regards to weight and size because sometimes the cost of shipping is not worth selling the item on eBay. So I try to sell it on FB Marketplace. But I ship anywhere in the US, most foreign countries, etc.

I bought some brand new looking men’s work boots. They sold quickly & the person wore them once & the whole sole fell apart due to dry rot. I refunded immediately as their photo evidence was overwhelming- lesson learnt!

I had this happen with a pair of women's golf shoes. The shoes crumpled while on the golf course. She was understandably quite upset, but she didn't leave a negative - that was lucky! I learned my lesson to check them all lol
