This will forever be my favorite saga of all time. When I was a kid I watched the episode where gohan turns ssj2 and that was my first experience with dbz. Yeh but those stupid choices are the reason they win in later saga's AND/OR later in the same saga. It's like if Krillin had killed Vegeta, it would have simplified everything on Planet Namek at the start but eventually he became vital. Android 17/18 later became vital in Super. Gohan reaching a new level and Goku sacrificing himself lead to their incredible power against Buu. Blah blah blah Basically what they do is super risky BUT not taking the easy/smart path makes them stronger in the long run. I like to think about it like what if you were an explorer and had to cross a jungle... one path looks really easy and the other path looks incredibly hard. One guy takes the easy path and the other guy takes the hard path. The guy on the hard path barely makes it over each hill but he slowly gets fitter and stronger, whereas the guy on the easy path barely struggles and never has to push himself too hard. Just before they exit the jungle both paths come to a gigantic mountain, the guy that's taken the hard path is prepared for it and slowly makes it over... the guy that took the easy path doesn't even make it half way and falls to his death.

As a kid I related to gohan and it was amazing to see him finally have his moment beating cell. After being forced into so many life and death battles his whole life fighting against planet-destroying aliens, gohan absolutely deserved the win. This still stands as one of my favorite arcs in all of anime and Z instantly hooked me as a anime and manga fan. The awesome battles and astonishing looking panels makes everything stand out so beautifully,now they do cheap cash grabs and stories that seem like cheap remakes especially callbacks to previous iconic moments. Like the Warp Kamehameha here during Goku’s battle with Cell later in Super being used during his fight with Moro,which didn’t have that much intensity like it did in the Bio Androids battle with earth’s greatest defender.

Love your videos, they are the best recaps of anime arcs anyone will find, especially since you use the manga as the primary content, whihc just reminded me of something I completely forgot LOL I remember the History of Trunks special very vividly, and remember that what sparked Trunks' SS transformation was Gohan dying. It's one of the saddest scenes in all of DBZ. I completely forgot that that isnt how it happened in the manga LOL Trunks already transformed in the manga right before thay fight that killed Gohan, thats why he wanted to go so badly to help 😳 I completely forgot this cuz i havent read the DBZ manga in a very long time, and I didn't go through all of it cover to cover. Throughout this saga, everyone has some kind of helpful role to play. Yamcha is with Goku, Krillin has 18 and the detonator and kills cell in the lab, Piccolo fuses with Kami and has his fight with 17. Tien and Choutzou really don't do anything besides the imperfect cell scene. It would have been cool to have them spend the days leading up to the tournament meditating and collecting energy for Goku to use for a spirit bomb to use against Cell. The visual of their added energy reserves increasing the size of the spirit bomb would be sweet and show a visual level of how much the side characters were able to help in unconventional ways.

Easily my favorite Saga, too. It puts a bow on so many countless moments in DB history, pays off so many interactions, and brings so many character arcs full circle that they literally had to make characters regress in the next arc, and esp in Super, just to allow them to re-attain the closure they'd already achieved by the time this arc ended. I truly believe that, with the benefit of hindsight, the original DB canon should be considered finished here, with Buu, Battle of Gods thru Ressurection F treated as its own bridge between the first canon and the new canon, essentially splitting the story's 2nd and 3rd chapters at Buu, not _after_ him.

Wow! The manga is really different from the anime. In the anime, Gohan had to die for Trunks to break his ceiling into SuperSaiyan, but here he is in the manga, training with Gohan as a Super Saiyan

I like how Vegeta pretends to not care, but when 17 has in Tien a headlock he immediately drops fighting 18 to go help. Also 'The world doesn't need God it needs me' is such a hard line.
