I've been asking for a reaction to this album for years. My first exposure to Gino and still my very favorite album. Thanks and, Oh My!

Yes, there's no denying it, the second movement "The Battle Cry" is reminiscent of a cross between ELP's Tarkus and Return to Forever. On the second side of his next album, A Pauper in Paradise, Gino also continues with a long suite in four movements, but in a more symphonic style with the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

❤I was surprised how much I liked this era of Gino Vanelli. His brother and him captured Fusion, Orchestration and showbiz Pop together into so.wthing very wonderfully Progressive. I actually loved his voice and their arrangments

Was waiting for someone to play this. Being a big prog guy, this was right up my alley. Great piece of work. Same year I saw Gino and Genesis live! What a year!!!

Thanks, JP, for sticking with Vannelli for us fans who check out your channel. OK, so after 3 albums of love songs Gino & Joe decided to stretch out and try something more long-form. Who can blame them? They would indulge more deeply in the Art Rock (progressive) influences of the day that could sometimes be heard lurking beneath the surface of their Pop song arrangements. They switched up the narrative and addressed something different, something more topical. I admire the effort but I don't think it really plays to the Vannellis' strengths. This was actually the first Vannelli album I ever bought, so my first impressions of him (them) were of someone who made albums that were more in the Rock lane than the rest of his discography would show. Anyway, I really loved the entire side one of this album 'The Gist of The Gemini' and would soon be buying his previous 3 albums. Yes, 'Storm At Sunup' is probably the best and most consistent. But , JP, I would not overlook side one's 'Fly Into This Night' or 'Love Of My Life,' from 'Gist of the Gemini'. But hey, why not finish out this side of the album with the beautiful album closer 'Summers Of My Life' which is the perfect final dessert course of 'The War Suite' four course dinner.

I didn't know that Gino Vannell went so deep into classic prog rock

Hi Justin. Dave here from London, where the sun's back after weeks of gloom (Who Will Buy This Beautiful Morning.... yes, I've been watching Oliver over the holidays!). Another side to this interesting guy, who is almost unknown here in the UK, but was a favourite of a local radio DJ in my college days. Thought-provoking lyrics too. I wonder if Gino had been reading Lady Chatterley's Lover when writing about the physical 'oh my' impact of those returning from war (like Lord Chatterley).

ELP meets Stevie Wonder. Love it! You might want to check out Stevie's Secret Life of Plants for comparison, but that would be a weekender!

I always felt like Stevie was the closest in style to what Gino and Joe did. Love them both.

I bought a Saga double vinyl Live 2018 LP yesterday A 3 cd disc remastered version of SFA OK 's Rings Around the World And a vinyl copy of "For the Love of a Queen!?"by Trampoline All for £10. This? It reminded me a little of Saga without the guitar and after you mentioned ELP i wanted to remind myself of the long song on Love Beach But that's odd, i can't seem to find the cover...no i didn't buy it either... But the song could be as fresh as this....or even better... After all, never judge a book or 20th century poprog by it's cover!

For me, it sounds a lot as ELP (Emerson, Lake & Palmer, or maybe Emerson, Lake & Powell too).

I couldn’t remember this suite so I was excited to give it a listen. I’m glad I heard it but it’s not something I’d hear again although I did respect the lyrics. Some of the synth works didn’t age well for me. Graydon’s guitar even didn’t sit well either. I was just watching a Lukather/ Rick Beato interview yesterday and Graydon was mentioned several times. Weird, timing is everything. Anyway, not terrible but some of it was cringey. There are other songs I’d recommend… Funny side note, my mother found and old self- portrait I did, probably for art class, done in 1980. My hair looks just like Gino’s on this cover. Proud and embarrassed.

@ I just prefer other tunes. I think the next album is better A Pauper In Paradise, song wise, and synths wise, they sound less simplistic tone wise and more in the Stevie Wonder feel which to me is the best. I think it’s a step up from GOTG.

Having disliked intensely most of the other Gino Vanelli tracks that have been played here, I went into this with severely low expectations. Given that context, I was mildly surprised that I had barely any urge to stop listening. I didn't find it amazing but it was definitely a turn-around compared to what I'd come to expect from the fella.
