Yes!!! I’m getting ahead of myself here, but what would be REALLY cool is if somehow funds could be generated one day though crowdfunding or some other way, for a calendar with a little mini digital alarmclock attached to it for anyone unhoused or who doesn’t have access to a clock. Getting a hug is as much of a gift to many homeless people as the monetary gifts are. It helps to remind them that they are part of humanity and deserving of respect and love by their fellow man. So many people treat them with disdain but that's not right. A hug can even feel scary to some because they're not use to others hugging them and they fear being harmed or they don't know how to process it emotionally. It's great that Knate gives them the option to choose a hug or hand shake.

Yeah, the option to choose is important. Hugs can be too much for a lot, traumatic even, and saying "no" may not be something they want to do after everything he's done for them. So asking for a handshake or a hug shows how much he cares as well and how understanding he is. I love that about him.

Notice there's still snow on the ground. When people think of Nevada they think of a desert being hot. While that may be the case in the summer that isn't true all year long. I challenge anyone who reads this comment to look in your closet and find any clothing you no longer need. Run it down to your nearest homeless shelter and donate it. (Thrift stores often do help with clothing but it's better to give it to the source.) It costs you nothing and clears up clutter. What may sit in your closet for a year collecting dust could make someone's day and keep them warm.

Have you ever tried finding work when you don’t have a physical address, phone number, clean clothing, a place to shower, and transportation? I have, it’s hell. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and say “just get a job.”

I hate it when people say that these folks need to get a job. We don't know what people go through. Especially what trauma or mental health issues people are dealing with. Even if they get a minimum wage job, how do they get together enough money to get an apartment??? It's almost impossible. I've been homeless and lived in a truck. If not for family I would be in a tent myself

I used to work with the homeless in the uk and have seen people sleep on the floor as they couldn't lie in a bed anymore. Ex military found it especially hard to live in the shelter

I couldn’t help but chuckle when Knate said he was worried Pirate would not still be at his campsite… the fella just told Knate that he’s so dedicated to staying on site at his campsite that it even prevents him from being able to consider leaving to look for work, etc. 😂 Certainly relevant for all other situations but seems like this Pirate is anchored ⚓️😂 So much love in these videos, can’t wait for more!

Knate, the world needs more people like you. If you don't have money to buy supplies, food or just to give to the homeless, you can give of your time and talents. My neighbors were an elderly couple who moved next door. They no sooner got settled and the wife had two strokes and broke her hip. The man was beside himself trying to cook, clean, do laundry and run errands. I donated time to clean their house, cook meals and sit with the wife while he went to the store, doctor or to pick up prescriptions. It meant so much to have all that done so some of the stress was taken off his shoulders. Unfortunately, he passed a year and a half after they moved in, and the wife went to a nursing home. I still visit her every week. Many people are just a paycheck away from being homeless. While these folks had a roof over their heads, sometimes people just need help but are too proud to ask for it.

The transition he's attempting to articulate are very similar to what I have and other vets go through as well as people who have been incarceration. The struggle is REAL but not always visible. I think that fear also plays a large part of why people don't help and have negative and aggressive feelings for the homeless. I saw this in my fellow soldiers around soldiers who were wounded badly and disabled and when I was a fighter athletes who experienced injury and losses. It's like if you help and interact that it makes it more likely that you will end up like them.Fear leads to anger. I hope that you and those you care for are happy, healthy, and safe this new year. How nice it could be if we all loved and cared about each other that's the way it should be some people don't realize that how lucky they are when I was a little boy I saw an old man sleeping up the railroad tracks and he was a world War 2 veteran I went home and told my mother she made him a big meal and sent me up there when I gave it to him I watched him eat he was very happy and I learned his name and I still remember it most mothers would have told me to stay away from him but not mother she grew up in an orphanage keep up what you do and thank you
