Of all the Justplanes DVDs I own, this is one of my favorites of all time. You can see pilot's love for the -200, I'm pretty sure they miss him a lot.

I'm proud to fly the last two remaining 737-200's left in service in Alaska. They're truly wonderful old birds, but they're nearing the end of their lives as freighters. They will be missed.

Thanks Just Planes. I so enjoyed this video. I remember when I was travelling from Australia to the "USA and sitting at the bar at LAX and seeing a huge line up of Alaska Airlines Aircraft. Pretty Unforgettable.

The B732 is becoming more rare by the year! By the way...if anybody wants to see some still flying, visit Montreal or Ottawa airport ;)

Makes me tear up a little. I remember flying these all the time on the Bethel-Anchorage route as a little boy. We'd be on the jet at least three round-trip flights a year until my family moved to Anchorage. The service was awesome and so were the free meals! I love the new jets (super comfy and quiet), but these old birds were fantastic workhorses that did the job better than anything else in rural Alaska!

The 737-200 was definitely a good aircraft for many people around the world. It did the same thing in New Zealand Brining many passengers services for sma. regional airport in NZ. Thank you so much for the documentary

I flew a round trip Anchorage - Kodiak in 2012 with a 737-200C of Alaska Airlines, around 70 pax and cargo mixed. Amazing experience, especially the take off from Kodiak with the mountain at the end of the runway... ^__^

amazing that those little engines can power an airplane
@mytmousemalibu
@mytmousemalibu 7 жыл бұрын
They aren't really small, it's a different generation of engine. The overall diameter is much less than what you see on planes today because the JT8D's that power the old -200's are a low bypass turbofan in comparison to the high bypass engines in use today.

35 years living and traveling around Alaska for work have many many hours on them. Some of the original pilots used to say "If you build a runway and cut down the tree stumps under 2 feet we will be able to get in" :) Used to be a pilot based out of Fairbanks that if you were held up for takeoff, and sometimes in flight, would play his harmonica as entertainment :)

Nice and the B737-200 is part of the B737 Classic family from the B737-100 to B737-500 which was then replaced by the B737 Next Generation which is the B737-600 to B737-900 currently in production later replaced by the B737MAX

Well no. the -100s and -200s are the Originals. -300 to -500 are the classics, but at the time they were known as the NGs, before the -600 to -900ER became the NGs.
@speedbird1598

With the exception of the Flight deck, the Classics have more in common with the NGs than the -200s

Capable of operating on gravel runway.. just learned something new! Those must be very well maintained gravel surfaces otherwise I would be concerned about FOD ingestion.
