It's refreshing to see a new GMT that doesn't have a huge bezel that makes it look like a dive watch. I love the way they incorporated the 24-hour markings in the dial.

This is so beautiful. I really wish more companies would do this style or even a sport style GMT. Thanks for the great review.

I would totally go for a traveler's GMT dress watch. I'm a pilot, and even if I'm not flying into different time zones I still use the GMT function and set it to UTC time, very useful for reading weather reports and such. And as a bonus, I'm looking to collect smaller timepieces, I've had enough with big and bulky dive watches so a smaller dress watch suits me perfectly.

Once again I came for the music and I stayed for the watch.

Another well considered extension to the Empire line. Vario has done quite well with this GMT. The Art Deco styling feels like a signature and the finishing lends a great feel of quality to these watches. I have an Empire automatic in winter white as well as Vario’s dirty dozen styled field watch, the D12. Both are excellent values. I think the development of the 24 hour ring and fourth hand suit the deco theme. The dial detail is impressive and complex. All elements are appropriate and make for an appealing design. I like dressier watches. Is this one a dress watch? Kinda. Do I care? No. Depending on dial color, yes it would suit a more formal dress event. After a date window, the GMT complication is what I choose in a watch. That this doesn’t have a date does not bother me; I don’t have a massive number of watch options but I do have others to select depending on needs, wants, and mood. Well done, again, Vario! Solid and considered review, Dave. Thanks!

I don't care about the gmt complication but this dial is so gorgeous that it is enough for me to consider it. Vario is a humble yet great watch designer / maker and look forward to their not-so-frequent releases.

Nowadays, because i dont need to dress up as much, i wear my dress watches, with no regrets, with jeans and a sweater. This one is a winner ❤. Vario is doing great things!

I've recently purchased the winter edition and i love it . I wear this as a casual watch and easy strap changes makes it fun and changes the whole look of this piece . The GMT is just a bonus for when you do travel on your hols .

I recently got one. I was trying to decide between the Summer Blue and Spring Green, but in the end it was the Spring Green that got my attention and I love it.

The skeleton hands are interesting but make the legibility pretty poor.

Yes, I felt the same way. I also feel the watch as a “look! I’m hipster too” look to it overall. At least to me it does.

As someone who frequently has to travel in a suit and occasionally half way around the world straddling dates. A no date GMT dress watch oddly enough checks a few boxes that would give it a place in my collection.

I've purchased two watches thus far because of your reviews (Citizen Nighthawk and Wise Adamascus) and this review may very well make it a third. Stunning watch and since I may soon be moving to a different time zone from the rest of my family, the GMT function is a very nice feature to have. Great review.

Love your channel! Been collecting watches for a few years now and I’m on a mission to make sure my new additions are always a different brand added to my collection and channels like yours help me fuel that venture. I just recently picked up the Spinnaker Dumas and preordered the 50 phantoms blue. I’m hoping the Dumas doesn’t swallow my 7” wrist though.

Vario is a favorite micro brand. I love the art deco design. Like you mentioned this design can three as four hand dials. Great review my friend.

Can highly recomend the tweed strap. I wear it with my Empire most of the time. It's a really nice combo in between couple of manly divers for example if your one of the collectors that likes to change watches daily like clothing. Vario even send me a christmas card. Nice company. Unique straps. ❤

When considering dress watches, I rather think about simplistic three-handers. This, I would personally label a "business" watch. That said, a business-travel watch makes all sense.

Great review Dave. Not my thing but still a stunner
@JS-ev4xc9 ай бұрын
I guess an all-rounder watch is more practical, it should include the date and make it swimming-friendly. I still cannot except GMT watch w/o date as one is looking at dual time, the date is an essential element to indicate the other time is actually a day before or after.

@javaman45849 ай бұрын
Is it really a dress watch? The colors say "casual" to me. Maybe for vacation travel or to wear to an upscale party. For business travel I'd prefer a white dial, which would also make it a great everyday watch.
@ColinLack9 ай бұрын
The price point eliminates it for me. If it was priced a bit more than the seasons collection was originally then I'd just pull the trigger and have 2 watches from the same series in my collection. I already have 2 Varios and I believe in them as a brand. But I feel the price of this is too high and I feel like using the Seiko GMT movement would be more in line with what this watch was going for.
@hifi-enthusiast5 ай бұрын
I really really like this watch, but I also think the price is way too high. Which is sad, I would gladly buy one if it was just a little less pricy. I hope Vario realises that they went too far this time.
@ColinLack5 ай бұрын
@@hifi-enthusiast Yeah I agree. Also, while I think they're still good quality watches, a friend of mine has a few of their more recent releases and they aren't significantly better than my Empire Seasons Summer Blue or my Trench watch.
@adammacfarland64159 ай бұрын
I’d rather have lumed hands than skeleton hands. It’s not ‘that’ dressy of a watch. As far as dressy GMTs though, Grand Seiko makes many. I don’t wear mine on the plane. Mostly because I don’t want to sleep with it on. But I wear it when I get to my destination.

I wouldn't want a GMT without a date, especially if paying for a more expensive traveler movement.

I love no-date GMT watches.
@kostar5007 ай бұрын
It’s more expensive but then look at the dial… i don’t see imperfections if any on the dial… and a true GMT as well…

love the dial but i'm not diggind the hands. and the onion bulb crown looks out-of-place. also, at that price, maybe a titanium casing would be more apt.

Unjustified price point.
@scootercj7986 ай бұрын
$798? $450 dollars more than the regular empire ($350). Doesn’t seem to make sense (even with the bracelet). I have 2 empire watches but this just doesn’t have the value proposition. You can buy a nice Tissot divers with the same movement and a bracelet for about $350.

Very ugly scattered over designed dial , even the GMT ring and hands in black looks out of place better if they used a matching color with the dial's color for instance dark blue on that summer version

I think it's funny that Dave has clearly missed the point of this watch LOL he keeps on mentioning how having a GMT function on a dress watch is kind of silly or something like that. But the reality is the person that's most likely to use a GMT is a professional person traveling for work and they're going to most likely want to wear a dress watch versus a GMT that's more of a diver which most people traveling for work aren't going to be diving or something. Having the GMT dress watch actually makes the most sense
