@@mariog7213 . Sorry to hear that you damaged your Citizen Nighthawk watch when you accidentally dropped it and the watch crystal broke. Did you purchase a new watch crystal for it? Quick update on my Nighthawk. Over the weekend I received a slightly domed Sapphire crystal with blue AR coating for this watch!! I installed it and I have to say that this crystal has taken the Nighthawk to the a new level. The slightly domed sapphire gives it the slight distortion that I like in some of my higher end watches. And the Blue AR coating really catches your eye in the sunlight. All I can say is WOW!! I loved my Nighthawk before, but now I think I need to renew my vows with this beauty and get started on the honeymoon!!!

This has been both my first pilot watch & first ever Citizen piece in my collection, änd I have to say thät I’m beyond satisfied with it; mostly based on the strengths of this watch alone, I bought another Citizen - än automatic diver - änd I’m fully sold on Citizen in general & the Eco-Drive in particular. To my mind, änd in this price bracket ($0-~$350), I prefer the finishing & detail-work of Citizen even over Seiko. If any part of the aesthetic of this watch appeals to you, I say go for it & pick it up while you cän. My one “drawback” thät I can say about it is thät the stock metal bracelet (which is well-made & compliments the case fine) is sized quite large. I didn’t change it nor adjust it for almost two years, änd for thät reason it got less wrist time thän it should have. I recommend either re-sizing thät bracelet, or venturing out & selecting än aftermarket strap, especially if you want to make the busy büt subtly-colored dial to pop. I have mine on a leather gaucho from Barton; I’d say thät most rally-style straps would work very cool, änd NATOs would probably be just fine. The stock bracelet is durable büt plain: pick a good aftermarket strap if you want this piece to really sparkle.

After close to 20 years of wearing mine, I've had two of the stock bands break loose. I went over to a lifetime leather strap from a handcrafter, which eventually stretched to the point of disrepair. I went over to an expensive crown and buckle Nato Strap, which pulled itself apart at the adjustment holes. I then went over to an FSC French Military style band which, again, pulled and stretched itself until it was no longer useful. Now I am using a cheap Crown and Buckle Nato style band which has been going strong for around 2 years.

I have the blue dial version of this watch and I love the styling of it. Even the factory band is decent with solid links and a milled clasp, rare at this price point. Yes not having a sapphire crystal is a con so to combat that I installed a tempered glass protector which you can't even tell is there. Some day I will upgrade the crystal to sapphire. It gets more wrist time than my grail watch, the Omega Seamaster with the 8800 movement. Well done Citizen.

Hi there, I am planning to buy this watch online tonight as a Christmas gift to myself, but am also worried about the cheaper mineral crystal being prone to scratches. Also, if I have to upgrade to sapphire, I have to bring it to a specialized Citizen service center (if there's any where I live) which will charge me a hefyty price. I have no idea about how to install a tempered glass protector on my own or even where to buy it, so I guess my question is do any local watch/ jewelry shop install this protector or do you have to do it on your own? Thanks.

I have had this watch for about 9 years? Great watch, really like it with a nato strap. The thing that sucks about it is the crystal, at the price point it should be a Sapphire crystal, Victorinox does that in these price ranges. The entire face is crystal essentially. Nice re-review of the Citizen Nighthawk. The crystal, as you said, definitely takes up scratches. I love these watches and use the slide-rule constantly. That said, I don't like my experience with the Nighthawks. The first one I purchased new ($179) failed within 6 months. I live in the high desert and it was a daily worn watch; however, the MT920 battery failed to charge. So, it was sent back the the dealer; that took 8 weeks. They replaced the battery and the watch ran for 6 more months. It died again, and off it went again for another 8 weeks. This time the dealer sent it to Citizen and they supposedly replaced the movement/charging circuit; hopefully it is fixed. I like the design so much, I picked up a second one off the bay new. It arrived and I discovered a small dent in the case. I ended up paying $75 for a blue dial Nighthawk because of the dent. I currently have 10 Eco-drives in rotation and have owned a total of 12. Out of those, 2 watches have failed....2 out of 12. These experiences have soured the Eco-drive movements for me. They all have no jewels and are un-adjusted. The current ones mostly just stay in the watch box and look good. No other solar watches have given me any trouble, except for Eco-drive. I hope yours continues to be trouble free. The one negative I notice is that the double crowns and case shape will dig into the wrist at certain angles. The bracelet is indeed amazing for the price. I am just waiting for the Chinese to rip this design off and improve on it (talking Seikos....Tuna, Marine Master, SKX....etc). It truly is a watch of its own for now. I also find it to be very easy to read at every angle and at a glance. It is nice to see that someone else actually wears their watches. Battle scars are battles scars of a watch well worn. Great job on the video, wrist shots, and concise remarks. Cheers.

Thank you for this in depth review! Mine is on the way and my excitement about it grows with each passing day. As a watch aficionado one must agree that a Rolex just has that cool factor that time has not been able to wipe away. And also Omega are doing a fantastic job at marketing. Having said that, I took a trip to the Ljubljana's Omega store back in spring to see the Moonwatch and to feel the hype firsthand. Well the hype didn't live up to the 6K EUR price tag so I pondered about the Swatch alternative, made from bio-ceramic and I just didn't feel the hassle of getting one from abroad (I've contacted stores in Austria and Italy, but they were of course sold out). The reason why I'm mentioning these two or three brands is because they all share the facade of being watches for professionals (Rolex has the Milgauss ⚡), but apart from the image and prestige they really do fail to deliver on some relevant complications. Enter Nighthawk... and my mind is blown! I really can't wait to get my hands on it, I feel excited to learn how to use the conversion dial and when was the last time you got excited about doing some math?! So, again... domo arigato, mr. Dave, your review was the tipping point and from what I've just written you've just helped me to secure a million $ thrill for a couple of hundred bucks! May karma repay you in full.💯🙏🏻🍀💰✨

One important thing: you need to have vision like a hawk in order to read the stuff on the bezel. I think the font is 1 point in size or less. So small. What's the point? Seiko FightMaster's bezel is better since it is outside and it is far easier to use while wearing the watch in hand.

The slide rule bezel may seem archaic, but when I took flight lessons, the E2B "flight computer" (a cardboard version of this bezel) was required learning. Why? Electronics of any kind can malfunction or fail, often at the worst possible moment. Paper (or this bezel) doesn't have that potential problem. So yes, phones, computers, and other electronics are faster and more convenient. But, if you're a couple thousand feet up in the air, you better have a good, old-fashioned backup - your life (and that of any passengers) is, literally, in the balance.

However, I have yet to learn how to use the complications it offers. In due time I’m sure. What really drew my attention to your list of xcellent points was the sapphire glass and where to get it. Although this guy has been a constant companion it is still unscratched. Then, there’s the issue of straps. Lug width? And does Barton or bandini produce such an animal? I don’t need to be guessing when you may have the knowledge I seek. I thank you for all things Nighthawk and also Citizen. See ya next time and thx again. brt

Great video!! I love my Night Hawk as well. I also have the Navihawk A-T Blue Angels edition with mesh bracelet. One of my favorite features is the slide rule bezel these watches have. I'm a sucker for those bezels, and play with them when ever I'm bored. My Breitling Navitimer has the slide rule bezel as well, but it's just not quite as "Readable" as the Citizen bezels. I did put my Night Hawk on a rally strap with red stitching, but I went back to the original bracelet as the watch didn't look as natural as it does on the bracelet. Thanks for your review of this watch!!!!

The Blue Angels Navihawk is a pretty cool looking watch. I like the Nighthawk on other straps, but I think my favorite look is still on the bracelet.

Great review ! I’m considering’ to buy this watch and I think I will try to get the sapphire version even if it is much more expensive... Congratulations for the « wrist size comparison » it’s really VERY useful. And thank also for the zoomed pics : really great !

It's almost Christmas 2021, so 30 months after this review. I just got my Nighthawk, this version rather than the new one. Paid under $250 on Jomashop, which is still a bargain. What a substantial watch this is! I'm a former aviator and submariner, so this thing really floats my boat. The GMT/local time setting system is brilliant. The bracelet is easy to size and very comfortable. Looks good and sits securely on my 7" wrist with 2 links removed from each side. This will almost certainly remain on the bracelet. It's pretty clear this is going to become a favorite.

Another great video as always! That watch is so busy and I can never tell if I enjoy it or not. I've had my eye on this watch for a while now.

The busy dial is sort of an acquired taste. I really like it but I know a lot of people prefer simpler cleaner dials.

Great video. I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone else put side by side comparisons of the watch on different sized wrists. Personally, with much larger than average wrists, I never can quite know how a watch will fit me. Stick with this format for all your watch reviews, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Yeah I want to do more of those wrist comparisons. The problem is that it's hard to get together three friends with different wrist sizes for every video.

Great review of the watch. I’ve been wondering, if you wear it on your left wrist, can you turn the slide rule dial with your right hand or do you need to take it off your wrist to use it?

Chad Schneider i have no problem using the slide rule while wearing it in my left wrist. I hold my right pointer finger at the 2 o’clock position and my thumb can move the crown at the 8 o’clock without any issues. The patterned texture on the crown gives amazing grip for the slightest pressure from the thumb as I move it across the top of the crown. This also means that it’s easy for the crown to move unintentionally- I often find it has moved off the reset position and my OCD needs to put it back.

Very complete video 👍🏻👍🏻. My top citizen pilot is the C300 Navihawk blue angel, in second place is my nighthawk blue angel, I love that watch.

I love the blue angels editions. Really cool color scheme, and I remember going to an air show as a kid to see the blue angels and I thought they were the coolest thing ever.

I bought a Blue Angels after comparing some other watches for quite a time. It's a unique watch, great value and should be as well made as other Citizens I have. I love the internal bezel and will use it as a minute countdown timer mainly. I will stick a protective film over the glass. Thanks for the excellent review.
