To see someone actually react to "I am your father" after all this time is priceless! One of the biggest plot twists in film history and it hit you guys in the face! Also, the Yoda meeting is a throwback to the "stranger on the road" trope from Samurai films. The master would test the student on the student's journey to meet the master, while the student didn't know his real identity. It was usually some test of character, to see if the student was worthy of the power they would obtain, via knowledge of the sword.

The line "I know" was a last minute idea. They knew that with Han being the rough and tough smuggler that he was, it wouldn't be easy for him to simply say "I love you too", those words were not in the character's vocabulary. So, the line we got was improvised by Ford after the director told him just come up with whatever he felt that Solo would say in a moment like this.
@davidt16219 ай бұрын
Han understood that she wanted to make sure he was aware of her feelings for him. Him saying, "I know," is his way of telling her that he's more competent than she thinks. He's implying that he knows things that she's unaware of. It's a very dominant but empathetic mindset for Han to have, almost fatherly and consoling, but in a romantic way. It's not just a cold and distant uncaring dismissal of her feelings. It's exactly the opposite, and if that had happened to any woman IRL, she'd understand it in the moment. But they watch it and some are confused. I think I know why this is confusing for some, but it's inappropriate to discuss. Suffice to say that sweet Hannah probably knows nothing about subspace and that's not a sci-fi reference. It's a bedroom reference.

When Leia realizes he could die, she drops the game and tells him, just for Han to say "I know", meaning: "I have also been silly, but l know, because l do love you too". It's two people deciding to leave pride aside and realizing what's important above all: the love they feel for each other. Great simple fun story, well written, with characters that grow and have authentic and funny interactions, plot twists that make sense (and not made for the stupid “just to subvert expectations” aspect that in reality is just an egotistical thing), and a touch of non pretentious philosophy. The prequels feel like fast food, and the sequels like pre-heated food that tastes like plastic. So crazy that we never got Star Wars at this level again. The only ones I can remember getting close are Rogue One and Andor.

Han Solo's "I know" is kind of like Westley's "As you wish" from The Princess Bride. It does mean I love you, but it's more about the unspoken connection. Han has always had some sort of zinger or sly comeback, but it this moment, the simple acknowledgment and acceptance says more than any canned romantic phrase would. Leia knows how he feels, and Han knows how Leia feels. I think it also shows Hans acceptance of his own death and sacrifice. He loves Leia, but he accepts that he won't ever see her again.

I heard that Han was supposed to say “I love you too” or something like that- but it just didn’t feel right. They shot it over and over and Harrison Firs just wasn’t comfortable. So the director just told him to go with what felt right and “I know” came out. It is certainly a very Han thing to say. Especially since he is still growing as a character.

This is everything I ever wanted in a reaction to this film. I've seen people who weren't spoiled on Vader yet. I've never seen people who were so totally innocent going in, AND understood every level of what they were watching. Of course this is a movie parents show their kids as soon as possible if they love it, so I've seen "I am your father" reactions from kids anywhere from age 3 to 10. None of them ever get hit by it the same way an adult does. Nobody ever is enough of a child to understand the Force and the father-son tension, AND enough of an adult to understand the romantic subtlety between Han & Leia. You two get the whole package, and it's brilliant. A girl who says with certainty "He doesn't love her," and a guy who says with equal certainty, "he does," tells you just how perfectly written that whole scene was. Brilliant. Best reaction to anything I've seen in years. I'm too young to have been there when this movie was released (I was born 9 months later, which makes me have some very weird feelings about how I got my name). But this is the first reaction that really captured how it must have felt being there.
@jacobcrist30809 ай бұрын
Interesting story about the "I love you - I know" line. Originally Han actually was scripted to say "I love you" back to her but it didn't quite seem right and they weren't getting the scene to work so they had done several takes. At that point Harrison had heard her say I love you so many times he ad libbed "I know". They ultimately felt it was more in line with Han's character and used that line instead

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! That reaction to "I am your father." That was the best ever! That it was never spoiled for you after all these decades is a bloody miracle. I spolied it for myself. Weeks before the movie opened in theaters, I could not wait and I bought the book. When I read, "I am your father." I reacted EXACTLY like you guys did! I was alone in the house. I ran out the door and screamed at my neighbors! "Darth Vader is Luke's father!!!!" When I finally saw it in theaters, I waited for it...the theater let out the loudest gasp ever! People were screaming at the screen. No, No NO!!!! I discovered the thrill of reaction videos that moment. I saw the film over a dozen times. When it got to that scene, I turned around and watched the audience react. It was an adrenaline rush I got addicted to. The reason I watch reaction videos. Ash, Hannah you just injected it straight into my veins!!!! Hannah, your reaction to Han saying "I know" was exactly what Han intended for Leia. He thought he was going to die. He wanted to leave Leia upset enough to remain strong to continue fighting. Hannah, your reaction was what he hoped Leia would do too.

It's in the years since people say its a cool line but maybe it isnt. Hannah saying he doesnt love her then - I swear she's spot on with so much.
