@@thesmellycatjazz well i wasn't meaning to a strict comparison by race. maybe hendrix didn't play 'jazz' but IMO he was one of the pioneers of neo soul guitar, which West is clearly influenced by. even then, i think hendrix did play jazz in some sense. he had some really complicated chord progressions, definitely not standard for rock or pop. so in short, nah its not really a stretch
