Hi MrWoodcutter, Thank you very much for this detailed review! I would like to add, that the loose handle is not a quality-problem but to prevent the wood from cracking when the planes are shipped trough areas with different climatic conditions. But in a sealed plastic bag this should be no problem during shipping anyway. It could become a problem when the humidity in your workshop is different than the one in the factory, so one could give the handle a few days in the new environement before tighten it down.

Great review Sir! I have recently added a couple of Jumma planes to my bench and I concur with your views. Nothing else in the market today matches them on quality and price.

I will never understand how you can judge how good a plane(or chisel) is without sharpening and honing the blade iron, The first thing you should always do is sharpen the blade, then you will be able to judge its true worth, How can you expect a factory machined ground blade to perform without being properly sharpened and honed( it could have travelled 1000's of miles since manufacture or sat in a warehouse for months), The purpose of the plane body etc is to present the Blade to the wood at the correct angle and depth, The plane iron is the part that does all the work and its sharpness is in fact of more importance than how flat and square the body is, That's not saying that a flat sole, and to a lesser degree square sides, are not important, of course they are, but a sharp blade is paramount to fine accurate woodworking.

Don't teach us ABC. Everyone knows it already. If you don't like the blade, just buy another one.

do you hapen to know the threadpitch of the depth ajuster, and if it matches a difrent plane that is well known? so that you can swap the ajusters around. thnx in advance

The loose screw in the handle is due to the wood shrinking during shipping. I bought the whole set including the nr7 (4, 5, 6, 7) I like them. If you're a established woodworker (i'm certainly not yet) you would have benefits in buying the expensive planes. Im happy with my Juuma's. I'm going to buy the low angle jack.

have you checked sole flatness tolerance of Nr 7 ? Is it around 0.003 ???

Most new planes have loose handles when bought.

I'm torn between juuma's and dick planes. Juumas have carbon steel blades, while the dick planes have japanese blue paper steel which is thougher steel. But I wonder about the edge sharpness. What do you think about juumas blade? Does it chip easily?

The lateral adjustment looks very basic, it really needs a bearing behind the blade slot for easy movement like WoodRiver did whit their planes.

Woodriver gimmick .Totally unnecessary.Stanleys work for 60 years or more without a bearing .Woodriver is trying to justify nearly 300 bucks.

To my understanding they are all made by Qiangsheng: Luban being a good one, WoodRiver adds some slight detailing touches, and Juuma orders superior cosmetic improvements. They supply other brands out there, but I don’t keep track of all the planes that someone claims to be made by Qiangsheng. It seems to me that these brands also go from good to better quality (same order), and this is related to user-readiness out-of-the-box, meaning squareness, polish and finishing, sanded edges, etc.
