Жыл бұрын

On Sunday, June 11, 2023, at approximately 3:34 am, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the St. John's County Sheriff’s Office of a stolen vehicle in their jurisdiction traveling toward Flagler County. The vehicle, a white Hyundai, had been reported stolen in Jacksonville and was reportedly traveling at speeds of over 100mph on US-1 in St. John’s County toward Flagler County.
FCSO deputies eventually located the vehicle driving south on US-1 with no headlights on. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle for a short period of time but later located the vehicle crashed and unoccupied near US-1 and Wellfield Grade.
Inside the wood line, just west of the crash location, three juveniles were located. The three juveniles stated that there were three other juveniles in the vehicle who had also fled from the stolen car. The FCSO Drone and K-9 Units responded to search for the remaining suspects in the nearby woods. Using FLIR technology on the drone, two of the other juveniles were located in the woods. The last remaining juvenile was later located near Matanzas Woods Parkway and US-1.
When the first three juveniles were taken into custody, one of the two males stated that there was a black male driver who was holding them at gunpoint while fleeing through multiple counties. However, through investigative means, one of the two males, 16-year-old Austin Tyler Perez Satterwhite of Jacksonville, was identified as the driver of the stolen vehicle. The other juveniles advised they had asked Satterwhite to stop the car and let them out while fleeing from law enforcement, however, Satterwhite refused to stop.
Satterwhite was transported to Advent Health - Palm Coast for evaluation of his injuries as a result of the crash and later taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for processing. Satterwhite was arrested for Grand Theft - Motor Vehicle, 5 counts of Child Abuse Without Great Bodily Harm, Reckless Driving with Damage to Person/Property, and Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage. Satterwhite was also issued several Uniform Traffic Citations. He was released to a parent by the Department of Juvenile Justice.
“These juveniles took their stolen car joyride too far and the juvenile driver is now facing several felony charges,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Fortunately, the other kids were not injured, and they did not injure anyone else as this could have been a deadly joyride. The real question is, ‘Where were the parents? And, did they know what their kids were doing at 3:30 in the morning?’ Thank you to the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Office for helping us apprehend this car thief and reckless driver.”
The other five children were released to their parents.

Not that it matters cause I’m a nobody but I’m glad that no-one got hurt and all the officers involved went home safe to there families at the end of the day. However I’m disappointed that the driver went home, I don’t know how old he is or anything about the situation but I think that anyone who drives recklessly and puts other peoples lives in danger needs to spend a few years in prison or at the very least get maced a few times on the way to the jail.

Just some of the best police on the job. Wonderfully professional. My last comment is this. The true pandemic in this country of ours sinking lower and lower everyday is bad parenting. Most parents have no idea who their kids are and even less of an idea of what there doing and with who. I absolutely think parents should be held somewhat liable for underage children. Perhaps fines would motivate them to teach kids how to live in a civilized society.

Your first two sentences are amazing and as a military sergeant and a FORMER Law Enforcement officer I WILL say every statement after that would be a code 5150 LOL, Your cool though god bless. Just going on the way it was worded, batshit crazy would be off the mic's if we communicated... Yes bad parenting is a thing but when your children become sentient at a certain age it is ultimately a result of YOU, YOUR KID, AND THE ENVIRONMENT, cant just point fingers they all did this collectively.

I've been kicking around an idea. I call it “AGGREGATE THREAT”... The name comes from someone, in aggregate, being a threat to the safety of the public AND the police. If you flee from the police or assault an officer, there should be a points system where you forfeit your life or at least you lose rights to YOUR safety/life and police no longer have to put your health/safety high on their list of priorities. This is an extension and focusing of existing “use deadly force” laws on the books. This, IMHO, would remove a lot of the guesstimating about whether force was justified. Let's say you are fleeing from the police. There's a 10-violation-point scale (number to be debated) Fleeing drops you 1 point (now you're at 9) Excessive speed drops you 2 pts (now at 7) Running a red light drops 2 pts (now at 5) Running a stop sign drops 1 pt (now at 4) Driving in oncoming traffic drops you 5 pts per minute [or maybe based on distance] (drops you to -1/0) At this moment you've given up your right to expect YOUR life to be protected and lethal force is authorized to end the threat you pose to the public. This doesn't mean police HAVE to TRY to (or should) kill you, but if you DIE (e.g. You're pitted at 100+mph)... It's on you SOLELY. I first thought about this idea watching a video of some older teens (16-17)/woman who fled from police at over 130mph. They were stopped with a pit maneuver and the woman died. They were wanted for shoplifting. People online screamed about the police and their actions saying shoplifters shouldn't get the “death penalty”. Which I agree with unless you run, flee with excessive speed, run red lights/stop signs, et al. At that time my plan would put your life in the value category YOU have placed it in: WORTHLESS. Another example: fighting the police. (Higher bar 15 points) Punching officer 2pts Punching in head/face 3pts Kicking officers 3 pts (4 pts to head/face/groin) Holding a weapon (non-firearm) 8 pts Spitting on officer 1 pt Swinging weapon at police/public 15pts Holding a firearm 12 pts Aiming firearm at police/public 15 pts Obviously, there can be duplicates of the same offense (running 3 red lights drops you 6 pts) Also, there are a plethora of other things which need to be added to this list, but this is a conversation starter. So you're saying “Chris, how do you prevent police from abusing this.” The Federal government provides funds to ALL police & sheriff depts in the USA for the purchase/maintenance of BODYCAMS FOR ALL OFFICERS. Just as they use car cams to issue tickets for said offenses, IA or Detectives reviewing the event will be able to document all the violations which led to the forfeiting of your bodily safety.

Since juveniles tend to get lighter sentences I think parents should be given a “free whooping” card for each charge a child gets. That way parents can do what they feel they need to get the child under control without the specter of CPS looming over them. 5 counts of child endangerment earns you a FULL week's worth of “unable to sit properly”!
