The restrictions of Mario maker demand more ingenuity of its creators in finding set ups, weird interactions, glitches and then disguising those elements, and because the player expect the game to (mostly) adhere to common sense rules, it's more impactful when a creator manages to break those rules. Take away all restrictions, and nothing becomes surprising to the player.

While both are speed runners, Carl's playstyle and level-making preferences are more a blend of puzzle/trial while Juz prefers more of a speedrun/technical approach to both play and creation. His platforming skills are thus much tighter as a whole. Carl is definitely a step over the average Mario player, but Juz is definitely has the skillset for higher level play

The thing is, with Mario Maker troll levels, there is an expectation that things will more or less follow the rules of the game, and even though glitches are often used to break those rules, there is a limit to how much the rules can be broken with glitches alone. No one knows where exactly that limit is, but we know there has to be a limit. As a result, when glitches do break the rules, it can be much more surprising than when Super Mario World rom hacks break rules. It's easier to break the rules with rom hacks, so you expect it more.

I agree. I've seen DGR play a super mario 64 rom hack and I've seen Juz play rom hack trolls and they're infuriating to watch. When you can just completely break every rule and make up your own, it's not fun anymore. It still needs to be grounded in a set of rules for it to be fun. Most of the fun in troll levels is learning at how far you can push the rules and learning quirks of new tech. When there are no rules and it's a free for all, it's just watching someone die to unfair trolls over and over.

12:35 Carl said the same thing almost word for word at the part where the pow was in the wall negating his wall jump Aw you missed the funniest death in the level at 19:51 It is kind of cool seeing the revisions in this level as cheese was uncovered, clearly Carl got the final version DGR had an earlier one: For Carl the POW in the wall jump was changed to a crate because of your amazing save at 9:45 Some time after DGR the solid ground at the pipe exit 14:22 changed to a donought because someone discovered they could just stand in front of the pipe to get the pow There was a 1 block high cieling over the spike block that was removed at 14:30 because DGR found that if he ducked next to it he could escape the spike ball Blue spike walls were added at 15:16 because DGR infinitely wall jumped to avoid the anti-softlock suck (and added doughnut to be kind) The thirty coin was far more closed off at 23:58 in DGR's revision There was a launcher contraption sat up at 24:13 that clearly sealed the pipes after entry that was replaced with a far more subtle obscuring semisolid The hint at 24:54 was a mirror of the key setup with the key block replaced with a boo now completely redone after #DGRblind killed himself repeatedly on it unable to figure out how to get the hint key 30:58 it's longer for you ;) because DGR kept jumping over it

12:39 You blah that statement away, but it does have meaning. And I agree with it. Glitches need to be found in Mario Maker and it can result in events that make no sense. In Mario World everything can be changed. In Mario World, trolls do make sense, because items are changed to be a troll. You change the physics of the game. You change the way the game should be played. In Lunar Magic you can make almost anything happen. And that's the reason you can't expect things to work the way they should. In Mario Maker, there is more creativity involved and you can have expectations, because you have the assurance that the code of items hasn't been changed. I still think that good Mario Maker troll levels are better than good Mario World troll levels.

If anything, using LunarMagic is worse. Mario Maker glitches are still forced to adhere to the constraints of the game's physics quirks to pull off their jank. With enough ASM, LunarMagic romhacks could turn SMW into literally entire other games (Celeste hacks?) or spontaneously generate a muncher underneath Mario every time he jumps if the maker so chose.

Juz is the first streamer I've seen who realized the mushroom would make his hitbox taller and let him get past the blocks. Carl, DGR, and Geek were all flabbergasted that it somehow worked.
