Great job. Lots of little issues, and a satisfying result. Looking forward to the next one.

Nice repair. Back in the 1980s, as a young man, I was obsessed with all types of cassette mechanisms. I loved playing and repairing them, but there would always be something wrong with them, such as wow and flutter, hiss, bad azimuth alignment, pinch roller problems. Then you would have the cassette tape problems, such as it chewing up, tightening up, the pressure pad getting clogged with ferric oxide. When the CD player came along, this was the ideal machine I wanted. You would press a button and it would play each track instantly, with nice clear sound and no wow or flutter, or hiss. I never looked at another cassette mechanism again. They were fun at the time, but I would never go back to them.

I bought a matching JVC tuner-amp back in 1978 which looked uncannily similar to the tape deck and although not in use at the moment still works fine.

In the end of the 70's, my buddy was into JVC audio and i had Teac cassette decks. When he brought his JVC decks at my place, we compared with my Teac's and, it wasn't even funny how much better all of his JVC's sounded!, SO much better!. The ANRS and Super ANRS werent a joke either, beating the Dolby's.

Yes I've had the same problem, after cleaning rec switch mechanism seemed to solve problem. Mine was on a marantz tape deck

Gotta love those decks that seem cursed eh? This was definitely one such deck.

It massively was. It did get fixed and sorted, and I sold it on eBay. It ended up damaged on delivery and the guy left me instant negative feedback, my first and only, ever. I refunded him and told him to keep the deck as goodwill (it still worked) and he still didn't retract it. Cursed I tell ye!

@@pwrestoration Oh for frick's sake....no no NO!! That's just evil. Even I as a customer would've been far more forgiving than that. As long as playability on the deck is unaffected, what more could one want?! All you want is solid playback and nothing more really when it comes to tapes. An imperfect looking deck to me just makes it that much more authentic looking if anything.

☹️ - so what was damaged [according to the customer], it appears that a lot of delivery company’s have rogue workers that when “😠” like to take it out on the parcels and deliberately mishandle them - often playing football/rugby with them and avoid stating “fragile” on the box as they are more likely to abuse it. Also more likely that 🇺🇸 delivery company’s have this problem. So you have to over pad/protect the item when having it shipped
