I’m about to pull the trigger on upgrading my older JVC X550R to one of the lasers like NZ8, my room is almost exactly as yours but my screen is 110”. I started doing calculations on brightness and really worried these new generations are WAY too bright for a fully black theater room. But your video gave me hope…are you dialing down the brightness quite a bit? I can get an NX9 about the same price with its upgraded optics, I’m open to any opinions you can share. This is primarily our dedicated movie watching room, so lots of UHD content being watched. Am I just missing HDR10+? What else do you notice that would be missing. My ultimate goal is inkiest blacks, thanks
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted 5 ай бұрын
I dial down the laser diode power. This makes the projector runs cooler and quieter as the fans are not running at full speed. Get the NZ8. The optics for NX9 is only slightly better than the NZ8. The NZ8 optics are a lot better than the NX7 anyway. I can also do professional calibration for your home theatre if you want. I’ve been doing it for 25+ years

I recently sold my JVC 790R and am looking for a new PJ. I'm eyeing the RS3100 but $15k is a lot to spend. However, the new home I moved into will have less light control than before. I have a SI 120" Black Diamond 1.4 and the X790R looked great calibrated, even during the day in the living room. So, I'm guessing the RS3100 should be even better. Thoughts on the RS3100 paired with a Black Diamond? $15k is a lot of money but it's so much better spec-wise versus the $10k-ish offerings.

Hello David, I am a new subscriber to your channel! Been watching for a while now. I have a question in regards to JVC NZ7 Projector & I am using Panasonic UB9000 DVD player after your recommendations + Anthem 1140 Amplifier. From my Panasonic UB9000, should I take video out directly to JVC NZ7 + audio to Anthem amp. or run UB9000 audio/video thru the amp to JVC NZ7? I have set up as video directly to NZ7, by doing this there is no display of volume on the screen when the volume is increased/decreased.

Hi David -- Thanks for this video. I'm assuming your suggested settings would also apply to an NZ7, correct? If that is the case, would you recommend calibrating with a Spyder with all of those settings already in place, or do your adjustments go after a calibration? For example, when I calibrated, my SDR laser was on MID, and my HDR was on high, and all the contrast/color was at the default zero. Should I redo with all of your settings in place? Thanks (Yes, already liked and subscribed).
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted 2 жыл бұрын
If you do the calibration you should follow the calibration results. It is best to reset all the settings before doing an autocal. Also before you do the autocal, save the factory preset as a file (and call it as “before” or whatnot) just in case you need to revert everything back to factory. As for my settings, only follow the motion, frame adapt HDR settings and leave the rest to what the calibration software have changed it into.

Hi David, Thanks for this very informative video. I’m also a professional A/V installer and I will purchase and install the same projector for my client in the near future. I’m just wondering how better the image quality is after the calibration compared to the factory settings - out of the box. I’m not certified ISF calibrater yet , but I’m working on it. 😊 There was simply no needs for this type of service in my previous projects, as my clients didn’t want to spend an extra $ for the professional calibration. Anyway, for the first time I will install the projector of this super high level of the quality and I believe that professional calibration will be necessary. Please advise, All the best!

David, I finally got my nz7 up and running. I'm still messing with my settings a little and trying to understand the projector. I have it on a 135 inch screen with 1.1 gain... I put in a 4k copy of "Oblivion" in HDR, of course. It looked very nice but I tend to like things on the cool side so I changed the color temperature to 7500 Kelvin. I know it's preference over reference. I still thought I could use a little more "pop" in my picture. I decided to do what you did and change my HDR level to 1 instead of Auto. Wow! My screen got brighter and just seemed to pop out at me in a 3d way! I want to keep my black levels as best as I can. I like my LD in high mode. Are there any suggestions you might have.
