JVC RC-M90 Belt Change. King of Boomboxes. Ghetto Blaster Slow Tape Repair

Today I crack open The Beast!
I bought this M90 with a slow running cassette deck. It cost me a fortune, and I had hoped it wasn't an electronic issue. I couldn't put it off any longer - so join me while I get her up and running again! Not too daunting when you are careful and methodical.

These sure are well, made no cost cutting done here that tape deck has a massive flywheel for a boombox and quite a complex mechanism .A truly stunning boombox i know how much these make not something i could afford to get but they sure did get everything right with the styling and build of these even the little window to see the position of the heads on the door is a neat touch .

@@solojinglesradio1 the 9935 is a nice unit - and from around 1982 - a great era for boomboxes👍 I feature a M9903K on the channel - a much simpler and smaller unit than yours, but a cool unit!

@@retro_restos Not bad too! This was a donation from 2009 but I had to restore it by a friend. I also have a Telefunken pcr22. That Sanyo gives a warm sound and it's very simple to play. Looking forward for that restoration too!

Just was wondering how much did you pay for this ? As some are asking for your house for one of these. Im looking for one myself

You're looking at a good £2.5-5k for a clean one. Prices vary a bit of course depending on supply. In the UK there's usually anywhere between 0 and 1 for sale, so it's getting to be a case of grabbing one while you can, as opposed to trying to pick a cheap good one out of a bunch. There's was a NOS one for about £11K, but I'm not sure whether or not it sold. I sometimes import kit from the US, but with shipping, insurance, VAT, import duties etc, I tend to reserve that for 'getting it at any cost' because some things may never come up again. It's a fairly lengthy process for sure. But at least it's ok if you take a methodical approach. At least there's space to work in there, and you don't have to desolder a bunch of wires to get to everything. At least it doesn't have to be done very often, I suppose. Thanks for watching 👍
