Joe's 1941 book "Children" had a nice little section on why kids of that time should not be bothered getting married as Armageddon was in just a *few short years* (Joe's words) In 1974 as a 14 year old I had to front a couple of elders for a minor infraction as an unbaptized publisher,which ended up with me receiving a private reproval.I remember my dear mother driving me home she was crying the whole way telling me that I might not get through Armageddon next year (1975) if I didn't pull my socks up. Fear and guilt have always been the main drivers of watchtower.

Agree with you Vivian the paradise earth hope was/is always under a sword of damacles i.e. fear of not being good enough. Contrast with Jesus' words of yoke is light and hope given as well as forgiveness 🙂
