Terrible conditions. North started slow. Bailey Scott was rusty, as expected. What stood out for me was our increased fitness meant we didnt fade away late in quarters. Fischer and Stevens were good. Xerri was good. Goater and K Dawson are in my team round 1. CCJ needs to be in the team. Duursma was good, but I feel he could benefit from some VFL experience. God we have a tough first month of footy, supporters and podcasters will need to be patient early in the season. Curtis continues to impress. Hope Jy is ok. Really worried for him. Clarko had to apologise for swearing at a couple of Sainters at quarter time, but not to me. Great to see the coach standing up for his players as far as I am concerned.

Xerri was good and quite dominant in the ruck (same as against the Pies), but our mids were collectively surprisingly quite poor and as a consequence we lost the clearance battle. Xerri needs to start contributing more away from the ruck contest, which could make him into a good player. I think Duursma is too good for the VFL, even at this very early stage in his career. For me he is a must and could become our CHF in the not too distant future with his mobility and great marking ability. Curtis was actually very poor against the Saints, but I like him as a player. Ford played very well against Sandringham kicking 4 goals and was flying before he got injured. He could be a R1 pick, which could be at the expense of Curtis. Chom was apparently good in the Sandy game and could also be a R1 inclusion either at CHF at the expense of CCJ, or at CHB. I certainly hope they pick him. Corr won't be ready from what I've read. Goater and Dawson should be locks in defence. Goater is a major upgrade on LMac. As much as I want Jy to play, they should give him more than 13 days to recover. I actually think the 12 day rest requirement in the AFL is too short and should be 23 days to ensure there is a minimum 3 games rest. I believe that with multiple concussions the rest period should actually be incrementally increased. I also fully understand Clarko's rage at quarter time after that dog act in of all things a frigging practice match. Hopefully he just cops a fine.

@@gustaaf1892 Agree with you mostly :) I do hope we pick match fit players ahead of players under done for round one. You are right about Jy needing plenty of time to recover.

You're getting ahead on Sheezel having won an AA. That will hopefully come this year and he is a certain future captain. Cornes only hates long contracts when they are for non Port players. The guy also hates North. I think Ford and Chom are a chance of playing R1. Ford played very well late last year and was flying before getting injured. Apparently Corr struggled against Sandy and is a long way from being AFL ready. Same goes for LMac.
