Why does everything have to be so miserable? It's like this whole philosophy is like punishing us for being who we are, but did we create all this? In the Kashmir Shaivism tradition, it doesn't say we have to hate everything material and be punished every step we take.

Who said we have to hare everything material ? Shastras clearly said that we should neither be attached nor averse to material things . It encourages us to use material things in the service of Lord Therefore if you love anything material please use it in lords service Ex :- If you are attached to money , donate it for good cause of Krishna Consciousness If you are attached to your wife . You both together perform devotion to Lord by chanting his names and visiting temples and holy places If you are attached to your parents then take them to holy places and you all together worship Lord If you are attached to your country then gift them this matchless gift of Krishna Consciousness In this way turn all attachments into opportunities for service to Lord You don't need to hate material things . You only need to give up enjoyment mentality and develop service mentality
