@Here_is_Waldo2 жыл бұрын
Well, a robot would have to have some sense of emotions or they wouldn't really get on well with humans. Even with things like Siri we want them to tell jokes, have a sense of humour, feel sympathetic and so forth. I doubt anyone could build a computer that develops sapience by accident, so building emotions into it would come first. It would be crucial for people to be able to interact with it that it felt in some way the same as us.

Amazingly done! The only thing that confuses me a little is Theresa Wright's Birth year, 1962. She's older than my parents (1963) and apparently, given the flashback we see, she invented K.I.T. when she was in her mid thirties/early forties. This means K.I.T. must have been invented in the mid 90's or early 2000's... That choice puzzles me somewhat as we obviously don't have these robots walking around right now and one could easily have picked a later date where K.I.T. would have been invented in the future. Or am I missing a certain point here?

*scifiroel* You exchanged seven and a half minutes of _your_ reality for _this_ one; walked on a journey with a medical robot, accepting that it had emotional connections and memories. Is this _reality_ the real one or has your mind just told you that? Were you, in fact, KIT, at the end and actually a tad reluctant to return to this reality? Just a thought... Lol.
@Here_is_Waldo2 жыл бұрын
@@billyandrew I think you're missing the point of OP's comment. Everything seemed futuristic, so why was the movie set in our time? It may have had some meaning to it for the film maker to have made this decision, since it is such strange detail to have included when pushing the dates forward a couple of decades would have avoided the question altogether.

Also it seems odd that she would be buried in the front yard of the house she grew up in. I guess it could have been just a memorial but it seemed more like a grave stone to me. Or perhaps the house was kept as a historical landmark? Just seemed odd.

Oh isn’t that sweet, a robot programmed to be sentimental. Funny how we project our humanity onto the inanimate objects around us. And yet that wasteland the robot walks through was caused by it’s very development. How many centuries we’ve been doing this?
@TheRabidCabbage2 жыл бұрын
Since you presented it for awards and won, you must be open to critique, so here's some: So a robot walks down a road, sees memories of humans doing human things, walks into a house, sits down next to an oddly proportioned human memory, which gives him a cog. he then goes outside and looks at graves, and then it ends. ok.. I am sorry to be blunt. but when I see "Award-Winning" in a title, I want to be blown away by world class work, not some school project that looks like an asset flip walking simulator game with nothing more than a single walk loop with minor variation. I mean, just check out the game "Everyone's gone to the Rapture", which is essentially the same thing, just done a lot better in every aspect. Exploring a world where everyone has gone and all you have is their memories. Using muddy mossy floor without making it react to the footsteps was a bad choice. Stood out like a sore thumb. The "walk anim" wasn't properly aligned with the characters speed. ie. foot sliding. I can see you tried to mitigate it by jumping away from the feet quickly, but I saw it. Frankly I'm baffled you would focus on the feet at all given the above issues. Why did the memories have over-bright lighting? was that an artistic choice? If so, I don't think it had the effect you were hoping for. I would've gone for a hologram or maybe add some ghosting to their motion. Not just turn off shadows/GI. :P Do you feel it was worthy of those awards? Can anyone tell me this is on the same level as say, Pixar? Of-course not. It has nothing to do with team size either. there are single guys knocking stuff out on or even above Pixar's level, it just takes a lot longer. It's better than I could do for sure, and it's probably a great start for an aspiring young animator, but that's it. I dare say you could do any search for unreal engine short and every result would be lightyears ahead of this. despite their lack of Award flexing. And what is with all the comments lol. Everyone having existential crisis' at the deep emotions. Christ. "Amazing! How much emotion is put into this short film and a complete story that it puts in our minds is just staggering!" - Just What?

I was expecting a twist like that at the end, explaining why everything was abandoned.

Why were they created? What happened to humanity? Why is this the only one left? How long has the robot been wandering around? Why would a machine have memories of humanity?
