Sharp looking truck! I also have q 1992 Silverado with 350. Its bone stock, mine is 2 tone metallic smoke blue and white regular cab long bed with 1990 Chevy 454SS chrome wheels. My next upgrade will be swapping the single quiet exhaust to dual out muffler. Ive thought about trying something with the air induction, thank you for posting this video. God Bless ya man!

I love the look too, had to by myself one! Also bought a small hood scoop that I’ll install right over the top of the filter to make it even more cold air intake.

I've thought about putting a cold air intake on my 89. Currently I have a chrome air cleaner with a 5" tall filter and that already made a difference. If I get a cold air intake I want to find a way to make it draw air directly from the grille. The factory ones take air through the fender I believe but the opening is so small. I can't imagine air flows that well through there.
@mattsauto64622 ай бұрын
I agree with you, they make an intake flex hose that you can buy at the parts stores, you can buy one of those and run it from the grille to the filter with no problem.

This is a well made video, I appreciate the effort. I noticed on my 92 k1500 that the air that goes into the filter has a sort of "ram air" intake at the grille. I wonder how it would affect performance if we streamlined that intake at the grille to act more like the real deal.
@mattsauto64624 ай бұрын
Thanks alot man i appreciate it and I added a universal air duck from the parts store and I ran it from the front grille to the air filter and that helped out a lot with the mpg.

I like k n filters, don't like how the filter box isn't sealed off to the under hood hot air ... I've seen other aftermarket filter boxes that only get ambient air from the inner fender , that's probably the one to have, or just put a k n in the stock air box

@10:08-10:11 there’s a small hole in the bottom right corner of the screen on the engine that is from a hose that connects to the stock air intake, how did you cover that if you did?? Anybody plss🙏🏽👍🏽
@mattsauto64622 ай бұрын
Hey so what that is, it’s a lil flex aluminum hose that runs to the bottom of the factory intake, all it does is heats the motor up on your cold start or if you live in a very cold climate, where I live at it’s pretty warm or hot all year round. So I don’t need a pre heater for the intake and a lot of time I see people take theirs off and it doesn’t effect anything,

I love K&N filters. Especially the oiled washable one. But they lied on this one. Thats not a cold air intake. The box doesn't look like it will seal to the hood and definitely has a big gap at the fender. Ergo , it's drawing less cold air than the stock set up and way more hot air from engine bay than stock . The goal is to NOT draw in any hot air from the engine bay. What do you all think the point of an intercooler is on a turbo ? The intercooler is just a radiator to cool the air coming in. Theres more to that but not here. Cold air is your friend , hot air is not ! You would do better to put the stock setup back on and switch to one of K&N's washable filters. They definitely flow more air than most paper filters. And they last. I put one on my 01 Expedition 15 years ago. Still on there. The filter it replaced was a basic paper filter that was clean. It got so much more air, the computer picked up a lean burn condition and triggered the check engine light. Reset it and it's been fine since. Somebody else mentioned the pipe steps down where it goes through the fender, there is a purpose for that. I haven't checked mine but I did run into that on my Expedition. Increased that tube and it did help throttle response right off the bottom but that was all. BTW, that little flap in the air horn that comes off the stock air cleaner. Is just there to pull warmed air across the exhaust manifold when the engine is cold. Suppose to help engine warm up. Never noticed it helping really so I pin mine so they stay open to fresh. They are know to go bad , get stuck sucking in super heated air of the exhaust. I pin mine to stay closed so fresh air only, and toss that little pipe thats hooked to it. And to all you guys running flipped lids on your air cleaners. It does not help ! You're getting nothing but hot air . Ever notice how your cars run better at cooler temps ? Us old guys (yes I'm an old mechanic) learned a long time ago, the hard way, flipped air cleaners and loud exhaust don't necessarily mean more power. They sound cooler so you push harder to hear the noise ! Getting better air flow is a great goal. But most likely your just getting better throttle response off the bottom. Maybe a tad in fuel milage. To get more power, ya gotta supply more fuel to go with that air. And not gonna happen with these old stock TBI's. Ever notice how the fuel from the injectors is spraying against the sides of the intake throats? That fuel is pooling up on the sides and dripping into the intake. Thats not efficient. The purpose of injection is proper/better atomization of the fuel than a carb can do. All the spacers everyone is using are not gonna solve that. Can you say "Holly Sniper" ? Not my bank account LOL. It's fun to tinker, been doing it a long time. But don't kid yourselves and don't waste your hard earned $$. Ok , rant over. Keep on tinkering fellas .

Looks good, but performance wise you wasted your money the factory intake is already a cold air intake and can handle all the power your ever gonna make out of that 350tbi.
@mattsauto6462 Жыл бұрын
The factory is a cold air intake but it’s not allowing enough air flow to actually make the most power. You can check out a different vid on KZbin where they dyno tuned and it showed the difference it made, check it out. But The main difference I noticed so far is gas mileage I’m saving about a 2 gallon difference because I drive the same distance everyday at the same time with the truck and the fuel isn’t as low as it normally is around the 3 trip.

Negligible difference in power, but throttle response is WAY better. Not to mention I noticed my gas mileage was a bit better afterwards. Plus, induction noise sounds great on these 350s when you have an intake

Ya the K&N is a waste of money im taking mine off after 16 years. Its kind of... not durable. The base gasket always fails cracks and leaks from the heat, The bolts and clamps loosen up. The whole system vibrates bad at wide open throttle. I modded the stock intake. Its going to get about the same gain as the KN opening it up and removing baffles.. No more stupid bracket to remove and extra nonsense to remove when I need to work on the engine with the K&N.. Not to mention the KN filters filter.. not too good. Not good for a truck often operated in dusty conditions like mine is

@BuckeyeHitters it's something I've noticed. I liked my K&N when I put it on in late winter. Sounds good and better throttle response. However come Spring and the weather's warming up in CA, I noticed how much slower the truck is with the K&N. Switched back to the stock intake and it's actually FASTER, just a lot quieter. Either way, think I've learned my lesson with exposed-filter intakes. No go for me.
