K&N light is like a screen? If you go 1/4 Mile and rebuild your engine they're great. But anything else that lets a lot of dirt through and ruins your motor a lot faster than it should.

OEM filter worked better in beginning when can hear tires chirp into second gear.

Actually, the dirty filter caused a richer mixture and MORE power for the DIRTY filter !! By averaging the numbers and comparing, we find the K&N was faster in the 0-60kph run, but the other two (2) runs showed the K&N to be slightly SLOWER at 0-80 and 0-100 kph. A proper comparison of air filters would be to test 2 different CLEAN filters, where the differences will be almost imperceptable.

Enjoyed the video but for those watching, you should watch other comparison videos too cause some show improvements, others don’t. Then just go with whatever you feel is best. I replaced mine with a K&N air filter and noticed an increase in acceleration immediately.

I have swapped a 1.5 litres motor into my car, but the old ECU were still 1.3 litres config, with stock filter the motor wasnt smooth and jerked a little. By using an open pod airfilter it became so smooth and significantly responsive.

I just purchased a 2010 Lexus SI250 with a 107K great runner It was well maintained. Today I purchased the K&N air filter and cabin filter for $118. Before I decided to swap out my stock filter my car at idle was sort of ruff. After switching I noticed an incredible difference in how my car idled engine noise was much quieter and my acceleration was noticeable but not a huge deal. I have a V6 250 HP but my main concern was my engine running efficiently. It was definitely worth the $118 on both the air filter and the cabin filter. My car runs like it has 15k miles on it. I highly recommend it.

I just installed one in my 2001 Smart Fortwo. I have to say that I do feel better throttle response as well as acceleration. The engine is turbocharged so I guess it benefits more from the filter.

Thanks bro, nice review n subscribed. Im driving a jazz gk3. Have done some trial and error here and there too. Change to hurricane air filter, can feel breath better but need to clean throttle body after a while. Change a custom closed pod intake n my car suffer during acceleration. Now back to stock intake with mugen grill is my best option. My itchy hand wants to try k&n but thanks for ur review.

It all depends on the car that you’re using tho. I just changed my dodge charger’s filter with a K&N filter, my MPG improved and the sound really changed when it hit the 3 or 4 rpm.

You are also supposed to reset the ecu while installing the k&n filter as per the instructions on the paper inside the box. Which means disconnect the negative battery cable onnthe car then install the filter once installed re hook up the negative battery cable. Then start the car let idle 10min then drive. This will force the ecu to re learn the new air/fuel ratio.

@YDSD unplugging the ecu won't effect your tune. U may have to go get a re tune to account for the extra air coming in as ur fuel tables might be little off.or it might not matter the ecu could compensate. When u reset the ecu it relearn the short and long term fuel trim. Based on parameters set in the ecu.

GREAT video !! The 3 steps in speed calculations provides an excellent testing method, which allows averaging of the 2 runs for each type of filter. The most interesting part is that, after averaging, the K&N was only faster in the 60kph range, and only by .04 kph !! Your test showed that the new K&N filter was actually slower than the clogged-up stocker. WTF ?? The K&N was cleaner, and it leaned out the fuel mixture, giving better economy (which wasn't measured), but providing less power, which explains the K&N's slower times during the test runs. The K&N is an excellent filter, and the ONLY filter that WORKS WHEN WET, -- BUT -- I don't recommend the K&N filter for Fuel Injected engines, due to too many problems with MAF Sensors and faulty cleaning/oiling methods used by ignorant cheapskates. I have used K&N filters since the mid-'70s, in several vehicles, including my 4x4 desert racer, and the filters are the absolute best for off-roading, where deep water and/or heavy downpours will clog a paper filter instantly. WIX makes filters for just about every vehicle, they are of excellent quality, and they are available everywhere. I would recommend the WIX Air Filters for all street-driven vehicles -- change them yearly.

I put a k&n on a new mr triton. The first car I have had that responds to a filter change. I get them because I rewash and clean filter regularly not really for performance but in the new Triton definitely spools earlier

I swapped mine out recently. The only reason I swapped it is because I didn't want to rely on stp filters anymore and the oem filters are so expensive they'll cost me more than k&n. Also the stp filter plastic connector meant to work on my car melted a bit. I wouldn't have known until I changed the filter.

expect to get substantial hp, not only change K&N but also modify exhausted to catless downpipe and ECU tuning as well. Actually, a NA engine can't help much of hp unless your vehicle is a turbo engine.

I recently installed a K&N cold air intake (for 2020 Camare SS)and while it has better top end throttle response, i didn't really notice any HP/Torque gains...I agree that a tune is needed. The intake also makes a whistling noise when I accelerate.

And get rid of the air filter box, the enclosure is a factor in the possible power range possible. I have a truck and added a K&N mushroom filter and at start up you hear a difference and I get a small improvement in the throttle response. No ECU tune added.

I think if the stock filter has a lot of folds, it will restrict flow. The K&N have less folds so less air resistance. This is what i find on the Z4 E89 comparing a Bosch filter to K&N.

I used the k&n filter for a few years . It collected a lot of carbon on the filter and went to the throttle body and plate due to the tiny holes in the k&n filter, went with wix filter and made a huge difference performance wise after I cleaned out my intake . No more k&n

K&N air filters work Great at Filtering dust. The tiny hairs on the filter work magnificently at filtering. If any dust gets past its an installation issue. Did You use Sealing Grease between the edge of Your filter element the filter housing in your car? Did You Oil the filter properly?

I would question the results, when you dropped in the new filter the stock ECU will need time to adjust to the new airflow via the sensor to adjust fuelling etc. Just curious to how quick the test for the k&n was conducted after change

I drove for a few minutes when the K&N filter was installed before I did the pulls so there was supposed to be enough time for the car to adjust. On a side note, we tried taking off the the air filter when we were on a dyno and instantly, the car made -2whp from what it made when it had a filter so I'm pretty sure the car adjusts pretty fast to the air filter. 🤔

I’m pretty sure you need to compare a brand new filter stock ( not dirty) to the K&N filter. And… you won’t see performance gains right away with a K&N until the ECU learns to adjust throttle mapping after a few highway city drives fast slow etc. flawed test.

Test in 4th Gear from 60-100 or 5th Gear 80-120 and you will see a difference. Especially at low rpm,the k&N Filter will give a more direct answere to the gas pedal.... If you have a Turbo engine,the turbo leak of Power at low rpm will be smaller.

I don't think you can do comparison like this. You need to cover a good distance over time before you can make any conclusions. From my own personal experience with these performance filters, I think in terms of power gain, you will not get a lot and differ between cars. I do however noticed a slight improvement in fuel economy. And power delivery through the rev range and with different conditions with the performance filter is a lot more stable or predictable.

Makes quite a big difference on the fiesta 1.0 ecoboost red edition , got my wife's hp up from just under 140bhp to 150.4 bhp on a Dyno with out a remap so it works on that car , I think these things work much better on turbo cars though . An earlier 1.6 zetec s owned by a friend made 2.5hp , although sharpens the throttle response abit and improved mpg abit too , swings and roundabouts with drop in filters.

Yea we added the resonated milltec stainless cat back exhaust , nice sound not loud , and after the Dyno ended up with a car with a smooth power delivery of 163 .4 hp on a dyno , sharper throttle , nice progressive power , that was without a remap . After a few weeks we opted for a revo stage 1 remap to make sure fueling was good and made an extra 21 hp . Was just under £400. Made an amazing car to drive with such a small engine. Sadly it suffered the 1.0 ecoboost turbo problem which destroyed the engine. Cost £4.5k for a new engine and all ancillary parts to go with it because it was out of warranty and had been "tuned". It turned out it wasn't the "tuning" because 1 month after the brand new engine the same thing happened. A second new engine fitted , and 6 months later before the service , turbo and engine failure again. We could not afford to fix it again because ford would not replace the engine free of charge a second time and blamed us. We never had this happen before , so out of pocket and the car is now probably the coke can you drank from a few days ago. Don't let that put you off my wife had lots of fun driving that car , better than the boring honda she has ended up with she says.

If I am not mistaken in order to fully receive the benefits from your "high flow air filter" you need a tune/re-tune. Also turbocharged and supercharged cars benefit the most from these not N/A.

Yeah, I put one in my 2019 Forte 2.0 and it didn't really do anything. Throttle response and acceleration is a tad faster but nothing to write home about. I did see a slight increase in MPG tho

It is true that a turbocharged engine will definitely benefit more from it than a NA. However a tune is not necessary. Cars a equipped with a Mass Airflow Sensor. Which senses how much air is passing to the engine so it can adjust the fuel flow. So more air = more fuel = MOH POWA BABY

You're testing a cold engine vs a hot one. That is why your first run was so fast to 100km. The engine had tighter tolerances when you first started, thus more compression and so more pep.

Mixed feelings actually. But as with the GE and GK, when they came out people found them weird looking as well. I guess we just need to give this new one some time and we will eventually appreciate its design.

I was a k&n non-believer but mostly you have to wait for the MAF sensor to utilize the extra air. Even then, maybe 6 ponies if you had a dirty ass air filter. You won’t be able to tell the difference. But the sound is better. It’s not hard to beat oiled paper, let’s be real.

K&N says 7-10 hp gains just with the drop in, but it depends on the size of the filter/air box, it you want more then modify the exhaust i used them in all of my cars but on my 2004 Nissan Pathfinder LE Platinum ed. with the 3.5 VQDE i added a Super 50 2.25 dual in Flowmaster with 3.5" in pipe straight out to a 12"L x 6" in diameter w/45 degree angle chrome tip and it is very throaty, it went from 260 hp to about 275 hp! and cold starts is almost similar to my 2019.5 Mustang GT 5.0 6 sp. PP1 which i also run a K&N cold air set up.

If the computer isn't adjusted to the new filter then it will put the same amount of fuel so your car is running lean so yean unless it gets tuned its worst
