Once upon a time I was there with my family. Its a beautiful place. Muslims of Chiang Mai are very cordial and helpful. Some Muslims from Chittagong goes there 100 years ago.

The man did not know Bangla; therefore, it may have been due to a lack of proper expertise in the language that he used the wrong word. It is well-documented that people moved from Chittagong and its surrounding areas to Northern Thailand during and after British rule. Some individuals from Bengal (present-day Bangladesh) worked for the British Army and were stationed in Rangoon, Burma. After the British troops left Burma in 1942, these people ended up settling in Northern Thailand instead of returning to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). In addition to this group, there were also people from the Chittagong and Cox's Bazar regions who engaged in regular trade with Northern Thailand. Some of them migrated to Northern Thailand before and after the partition of 1947. Both groups married local women and sought to assimilate into the local culture.
