Nice fight, I was supporting the judoka, but the karateka prevailed with an excellent mae geri shot in the exact spot. Impressive tomoe nage at the beginning of the fight. In my opinion, the Judoka should attack more with striking and then close the distance with more decision and try to quickly finalize the opponent on the ground with a joint-lock or a strangulation. Unfortunately the rules penalize grapplers because there is too little time available in ground grappling.
It's refreshing to see a technique like Tomoe nage being put to use in a hybrid combat sport that's clearly under the influence of modern mma due to a different ruleset. Involvement of gi grappling even alters the striking aspect of fights and it's actually what I'd like to see more organizations try out since its meta can be quite similar to street fight. Mae geri which ended the bout was impressive too.
