HE IS MY MAN FR‼️As someone who knows the Idle discography by heart, Houdini is responsible for producing the Idle songs that affect me most deeply, i respect him sooo much. I like the video but im saddened that you never talked about Already😭 It's one of my favorite songs of all time, it doesn't have a single flaw. every lyric and every instrumental is perfect, the intro, the pre-chorus, the chorus, the rap part, the dance break, the outro(best outro ever existed), the choreo, the members' voice tones, every little detail that I noticed after listening to it many times haha... It was prepared so well with the story of the song that when I first listened to it I felt like I was the one who just broke up😭 I still get emotional while listening to it lol idk why. I don't know what Minnie went through to write this song but I really loved their perspective on her breakup with that person. Already is a song where EVERYTHING is just perfect in short. I wish it got the praise it deserves it's truly incredible. I swear i could write a huge paragraph praising just this song, I'm that obsessed with it. He also produced Sculpture and Moon with Minniee😦 Sculpture is among Idle's songs that have the deepest meaning for me so far. I felt sorry for Minnie when I think about what she must have gone through to write this kind of song. As neverlands when we looked at the song from different perspectives, we also thought that it was about the objectification that an idol is subjected to by the audience, just like Nxde. When the album I Love first came out and I listened to the song the fact that it was connected to Nxde really blew me away, I thought they were connected on purpose. But now I understand that Sculpture is really a song that Minnie independently wrote after going through a difficult time. It affects me more now. I also love all the other songs Houdini created, I could talk about them for hours without getting bored. I love Idle very much its the group that broke my prejudices against kpop. Although I'm still not that fond of kpop, other groups seem very fake and forced to me but I see Idle differently. I see them as real artists rather than idols because i appreciate their music, not just because the members are funny etc. I hope we can stay with them for a longer time. Independently. I will support them until the end no matter what happens. I hope they get more recognition they deserve as artists. Every single song they've made has no jokes fr.

Watching this video made me realize that I think most of my favourite (G)I-DLE songs are produced by Houdini. The songs he helped make has such a beautiful melancholic music. Love it. Thanks for interviewing him Umu ❤❤ Hopefully you get to interview the producing line of (G)I-DLE

These K-pop producers deserve more attention and love. Sometimes we forget about them and some people even think the groups write the songs. (on occasions idols might help a little with a melody or something, but they do not do sound design or even chord progression development) Most of the genius of K-pop comes from producers in Korea, or even many other places in the world. Most producers get little to no attention for the incredible work they do.

As someone who is obsessed with the songs Houdini has made along with Minnie, I've been anticipating this what feels like an eternity. So fun hearing him break down the differences in each of the producer-line members' preferred styles and what its like to work with them. Fascinating that Nightmare Version of Put It Straight was essentially the first draft of the song before it was toned down, and then they toned it up to that again for Queendom. Also YOU PICKED MY QUESTION! 🥰🥰 The fact that he worked so hard on Moon, arranging it three times, and it is his personal favourite of the songs he worked on for I-DLE... yet he still thinks he could've done a better job 😂 And him declaring Minnie a genius after she made the hook/chorus like it was nothing? That's my bias everybody 🔥💯

I adore listening to producers who work on composing along with the idols themselves, it's incredible to get a glimpse inside their creative minds and how different ideas can clash and fuse together. Been waiting for this interview ever since the twitter announcement! For me, MOON and Sculpture are instant classics that scream (G)I-DLE, I will never forget the first time my ears were blessed when I listened to those songs. We need more Minnie produced dark songs, like MOON was giving dark, cold winter nights where a witch ceremony was happening, with smokes flowing around, a black cat sitting beside a cauldron. Sculpture, on the opposite, was giving a glamorous 1960s actress coming back to her home after a day of shooting a movie, and finally being able to let go of her flashy smile and crying in front of her mirror while the spotlight shines from above. Also love the fact that Houdini mentioned PIXY, some of their b-sides are completely swappable with (G)I-DLE's discography, and the fact that he was involved in production too. Another interesting catch is that he mentioned the current (G)I-DLE sound which is giving Soyeon, and I agree as well. The og/early (G)I-DLE sound was very mystical and whimsical, upto until LION (and Oh My God era) where they had a much darker direction. Weather was supposed to be released instead of Dumdi Dumdi but plans changed at the last minute, and we got a lighter sound. It wasn't until TOMBOY era where they changed their whole aesthetic to a much trendier, edgier direction until Super Lady. Something tells me they're gonna change the sound direction again, since Fate was considered to be a title but was changed by Soyeon herself. So hopefully, we see a new sound direction for their next comeback. Oh, and more Houdini produced b-sides as well because Doll, from their recent album, was made by Yuqi and some other producers, which gave off the classic dark (G)I-DLE vibes that we had been wanting. It's no surprise that it made to the top of my 2024 playlist so far, so hopefully we get the sequel for MOON next time!

Thanks! Liked Houdini's insights & his India connection! Nightmare ver Put It Straight was original that Soyeon wanted! GIDLE music sounds natural, not overprocessed even in the SY's TTs. Their vocals are never drowned out by the instruments. They feel like an indie band with a big budget. And H confirmed that about SY's musical taste! Would be amazing to get to know from other I-DLE regular collaborators, and also the I-DLE producer line themselves - Soyeon, Minnie, Yuqi, please!

The way he described his working relationship with each member on the producing line just sounded like "that's so them". Soyeon comes in and knows what she wants, Minnie is the type of person who wants to talk it out to come up with the song, and Yuqi make the working environment extremely fun to be around. I'm curious on Yuqi's case if she leans more on the Minnie side of writing/composing or is more like Soyeon? She might be something in in between the two extremes. I've often thought that Yuqi modeled her producing side off of Soyeon (given how much she respects her) but I can't see her being that hardcore as our fearless captain. The one time we've heard her talk about her process she said she thinks about the members parts a lot while writing and arranging the lines. There for awhile she wanted to write more "deep" songs (probably to get away from her cute image), but here lately I think she's leaning back to her cute side. We'll have to see with Yuq1.

@@mamatmatew I think the album is on par with Miyeon's solo effort, to be honest. Yuqi is going to get more interest given it's Yuqi and she's extremely popular (especially in China) but I don't think it's any better or worse than what Miyeon did. They just have a different approuch to their music which I like. Both of them didn't try to copy (G)I-DLE's sound and went for what was best for them and I admire that. I do think Freak is a better title than Drive though, but Miyeon's Te Amo out did Could it Be imo. I also think that both Miyeon and Yuqi's solos were better than (G)I-DLE's Heat album, probably because both of them had more input on those. While we're talking about it, out of the soloist, Soyeon's Windy was a more consistently in terms of song quality, BUT Soyeon had the advantage of being a producer/song writer of multiple hits beforehand. People like to forget about Beam Beam, but listen to it again and compare it to Drive and Freak. I've seen people compare Yuqi's outing to other group members turned soloist like Nayeon, Rose, and Wendy. Moneywise I think she matches them, and I do think Freak is a track that beats most of these types, but if I'm picking a soloist from a group that had a superior album, I'd go with last year's Jihyo or Chuu solo debuts. Like Soyeon, I think their albums has better songs overall. Yuqi's b-tracks are fine, but I'd be lying if I said that any of them match Freak and Could it Be. Lastly, but no means am I saying I don't enjoy Yuqi's album. She's my bias, (G)I-DLE is my favorite group, I'm one of the people who pre-ordered physical and digital copies, and I think she's got personality plus for a soloist. I just wanted to answer this in the most unbiased way I can. Yuqi is great, her album is fine, and Freak is a winner. Buuuuuttttt I'm not blinded by my fandom either.
