Brilliant video and anlysis. Unfortunetly K did die at the end, the song 'Tears in Rain' points to this as it's the song that Roy Batty dies to in the first movie, furthermore, one of the writers (I think, if not producer) said that K died and 'Tears in Rain' was played there to show it.
@That0therGeorge10 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! That's a fair point, but I still think it is open-ended enough that viewers can have their own interpretation. I personally believe he dies though, I would say it also makes the line "dying for the right cause is the most human thing we can do" even more impactful.

I thought it was clear that K dies at the end, it's a mirror of Roy at the end of the original. Both of them realise their purpose. Both die being 'more human than human' and as such they fulfill the nature of being a replicant. Both endings are utterly beautiful
@That0therGeorge27 күн бұрын
There's a good chance, but since it isn't as clear-cut as Roy's I would say it's open to interpretation. But agreed that both endings are fantastic.

Hanz Zimmer's Sea Wall is the essence of life made manifest. What makes it work in the context of the scene is the depiction of two synthetic people that are fighting with as much conviction than the disciples in Acts and Romans. Even though the combat is brutal and violent, you cannot help but celebrate the raw and primal humanity of the moment. The song makes you want to feel alive and makes you jealous that these fake replicants have a stronger sense of love and belief than you do.

The unfortunate problem with saying Joi ‘evolved’ past her programing, is that K very clearly wanted a real relationship with her, wanted her to feel real, wanted her to make real choices. So then, following her programming, she did exactly that. She did what K wanted. So I see little reason to think she wasn’t still completely following her programming.
@spikeyfied Жыл бұрын
The philosophical depth and meaning of BR 2049 will only grow with time. Joi alone has so much potential for debate and analysis. What of her actions is real, what was just programmed? Is the next step in the BR Movie Universe the revolte of AI, since AI as well as Blade Runners are created to obey, yet they rebel? This Movie mirrors our modern world in so many ways. Loneliness, especially with mid 20 to end 30 Males is a business model, so AI companions like Joi can be seen as a metaphor for modern day Online Dating or not only that but in reality there are already AI Companions that via text/Avatar tell you what you wanna hear. Joi ads in the movie state "Everything you want to hear/see". We are not far away from this in our modern day society. Give this movie another 20 Yesrs and it will be regarded as even more groundbreaking than the first one. It's one of the rare occasions where the second movie outclasses and surpasses the original in its meaning and impact. Too bad not even BR 2049 could break even at the Box Office but did so with home media releases, just like the original. If Denis Villeneuve continues his amazing filmography like he did with Dune Part 1, he will be on par with Scott, Spielberg, Lucas one day. BCl to topic: Blade Runner 2049 is not only a SciFi Masterpiece it also is on so many Levels a social commentary on our modern world. We are humans and when we deny basic human rights to something that we create than it will be Slavery. AI will continue to rise, the existential crisis of the modern human will only grow with time, the more we destroy our home planet, the more we will have to push for space colonies. Are those born on a colony still Humans or are they even "earthlings"? What if we colonize the mars in the next 50 years and they wanna be independent? Those are things that will happen. What if we advance even more in technology like cloning, genetic engineering and come to a point where we could create artificial humans? What if for example the USA, Europe ban this tech and china, Russia and North Korea push for it. Do the states that banned it deny those geneticly created humans basic human rights? Do we even accept them as humans? ARE they even humans? I guess in those questions and this regard we gonna see how BR 2049 will be discussed. What we all can learn from the movie is, that even if K or Joi were created to obey both of them are the most human characters in the entire movie. We as an audience even see how joi confesses her love for K before she is terminated, ceases to exist, also because K took her with him. "Like a real girl" has so much more meaning. To both of them they are real for each other. That is more than most relationships in our modern world even can say. I'm just overwhelmed on how many levels this movie makes me think and feel. Thank you for this master class video.
@That0therGeorge Жыл бұрын
Agreed with your analysis on Joi. I do think these next couple decades will be interesting, but I will say that I don't believe it's all necessarily doom and gloom, but that may differ depending on one's personal perspective. It is a shame about the box office, but at the same time this film is talked about so much and is always being referenced in various things. It strikes me as something that, like the original, has that longevity. It isn't a mega blockbuster that brakes a billion at the box office, but is never talked about again haha. Not many mainstream audiences will know "Villeneuve" by name, but I think he's already considered up there as one of the best directors of our time amongst film fans. Thank you so much for the compliment, I'm really happy you enjoyed the video. And thank you for all your input as well!
