K140 Returns to the Rails! (Steamrail Victoria's Mernda Shuttles) | K140, K190

I remember in the late ‘70s when K184 started having problems K153 was the only steam locomotive until K190 was restored. I was one of the passengers who went to Bendigo to “Bring Back K190”. (remember Don Potts?) At the time K190 was a shunter at Bendigo. The green K190 featured in The Age coverage of the 125th anniversary of the Port Melbourne line.

I went to chase this train today as well, and saw it twice at South Morang, and Middle Gorge too. I only noticed today K100 was renumbered K140 too.

Good to see the locomotive is very shiny ✨ and clean and this is the first time that I have seen K140 so goodbye K100 and welcome back to the rails K140

I’m thinking that with the computerized signalling and lack of points that running a loco around the train will be a lost art. Can the Stony Point line run a loco around the train like it used to with the A class? In those days it would have been manually operated points. I don’t know of the level of automation of signalling on the Stony Point line. I read that the Weedex train to Glen Waverley needed a light engine to pull it out for the return journey. Now the weeding is done with HiRail trucks.

k100 had their number changed on 28th of may 1940 so on saturday they put it in order to celebrate the k140s anniversary

Where did K140 come from? Oh wait no, its just K153 with different number plates again.
