​@@komodocoon4735 the rhythm part alone probably requires a good year of dedicated noodling to get fluent and effortless with it, if starting with basic Enter Sandman Guitar Center level of competence. This is based on how long it took me to play the 'I'm The One' rhythm part. Then the solo is more work. I think 3 years is possible with dedication. Gates is really fantastic.

James Butler yes! i agree, because learning it by ear, and watching syn play it, and then look at the tab books, its in a totally different position. like nightmare especially, and critical acclaim. i havent actually bought the books, but just looking at previews i can tell most of the book is going to be like that. the only transcriber team that i think get it 100% is jordan baker and ryan.. they did dream theater tab books since 2005's octavarium, and all of dethklok's stuff, and disturbed's indestructible.. i trust these guys.

The best tip anyone can give you is just to practice, I'm teaching myself and the best way to do it is just to sit down for an hour or so a day and just play, if you are finding that you don't want to sit there and play, you've got the wrong instrument.
