I love these type of interviews.They give support to many of us old heads that loved the music.So many times the young people don't understand our generation.They say y'all old that's why y'all dont understand our music or y'all just don't like our music.We were raised during the foundation of it and what y'all don't understand is we still love it and just want it to be represented in a way so that it can still be respected and not laughed at.And American Hip Hop better get its shit together because that Grime from London is coming this way.

When I was a about 12 years old in Philly in the early 90s I didn't know Freestyle was what that genre was called. I (insensitively) just called it "Puerto Rican music", or "Q102" music, because those were the main types of fans and that was the main station that played it. I liked it all, though.

And you're not wrong- Freestyle was HEAVILY influenced by Puerto Ricans and Puerto Rican culture. That's no different than calling Hip Hop black music. I was a fan of freestyle in the late 80s and early 90s but you saw that hip was influencing it so much. The dancing and putting raps into the music was more and more. Its only natural that it phased it out.

It was beautiful to see the cooperation between father and son here. I didn't know K7 had a rapper son named J6 haha. I wonder what it'd be like to have a kinship with your father over a career choice. The kid sure won a lottery of life in the sense that he was born to a man who has a world class education in music.
