K88 on duties on the 2km section of the Former Mount Somers Branch Line restored as the Plains Railway. K88 was built by Rogers Locomotive Works in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1877, and after withdrawn from service in 1926, it was dumped in the Oreti River for flood protection. The Plains Railway purchased the ruins in 1974 and now K88 can now be seen in regular operation. The tender on K88 was once used on K95.
