Here's a quick joke that highly relates to the car antenna theft: Pete Seeger is shopping for groceries. About halfway through his list he realizes he left his banjo in the back seat of his car with the door unlocked. Panicked , he leaves his grocery cart in the aisle and runs out to the parking lot, but it's too late. Someone had already left another banjo. Just kidding! KN4EBW

I believe Dakota batteries have similar specs to bioenno’s. I have operated in the winter at temperatures of -35c. My battery lives inside a pelican case in which I also has the body of the ft-891 in it. To operate in the winter I just put my go-box on top of the snow and so far the battery is good, almost 3 years old. 73!

Way back in the 70’s an acquaintance had the cure for the other kids who harassed him and were always trying to bend his steel CB whip. He rigged a remote control for his radio and amp so he could key it up remotely. Least to say 150 watts RF at 11 meters was very discomforting to those who tried to vandalize his antenna.

I have a river 2 pro. I ended up just tapping off the DC power plug drill to hold the side of the case and have Anderson power pole connecter coming out of the side of the case problem solved. But you are right the problem that the nice pretty power box has if brakes you need service and 10 apps on the DC side has not very much.

Hey Bro, The Thumbnail got my attention! LOL There's an easy fix for that. Firstly, disconnect your antenna from the radio. (you don't want to damage that, do you?) Next, conjure up a KV line to it. (wet the ground for better 'conductivity') Finally, I"d reckon they'll get a great kick out of it! 😂 From AU Cheers!

I've found that my LiFePo4 battery's temperature stays fairly stable. A thermometer in the car is measuring AIR temperature, which can change quickly... just open a window. Even when the car's interior stays at 120°F, it takes a while for the battery to rise to even close to that, especially if it is sitting low in the car and/or inside of an enclosure. My battery usually doesn't even reach 110°F, even if I use my equipment remotely in a hot car. I think it would take a lot of heat AND current to elevate the battery to 140°F. Even then, my external BMS will shut it down and protect everything. YMMV. 73! -Scott

LOL Very Funny I watched this video to see exactly how to protect my ATAS120 from being stolen with some kind of trick and funny thing is that I had been doing the exact same thing for many years!! Take it off and lock it in the car…..but never just leave it on your unattended vehicle! You would like to think that a fellow HAM wouldn’t steal it but as we say in the Marines you always have that 10% that mess it up for everyone else! So take it off and lock it up!! 73

Can I recommend the Gennasun solar charge controllers. They tend to be RF quiet and our friend Julian in Finland who also has a KZbin channel uses these controllers to power his gear with solar. The same technique works for the Little Tarheel line of Antennas. I usually do not work HF while driving.

When I'm not using it, it is sitting on the front seat of the car. Years ago I had a 2m 5/8 wave and a 10 m 1/4 wave antennas cut from the coax, luckily I saw the cut coax before I tried using the radios. Why they stole the antennas and didn't break a window to take the radios, I guess I was semi-lucky.

Never had antennas stolen except for one specific place. Dayton Hamvention. Every single time I have to remove any and all antennas if I go there. I can part in the worst part of town and not lose antennas, go to the largest gathering of hams and there they go.

I would drill and tap a metric hole in the base of the antenna. Then find a security head set screw (security bit required to unscrew the set screw) and screw the antenna on the base, then tighten down the set screw enough to prevent the unscrewing of the antenna from the base. I did this back in the day when cb radio was super popular. If someone understands what I'm saying, and can explain it better please do. 73

I think in the US the metric screw would be enough to thwart would be antenna thieves lol!

@@hamradiotube Antenna theft prevention around here requires that you take the antenna with you. I had an FT-857D, FT-767GX, and other items stolen even though they were inside the vehicle. These thieves did not care if they do $1000 in damage breaking in and tearing out a $500 radio, and nobody saw a thing. If they do catch them, they won't do time and you are not likely to get you stuff back. I kind of expected a more effective method down there in Texas, with bigger potential consequences for the thief. Sorry, I guess I am just bitter about getting stuff stolen.
