K9 officer honored in processional before being put to sleep | FOX23 News Tulsa

A retired Muskogee K9 officer received a hero's treatment on his final journey. Bosco joined the Muskogee Police Department in 2009 as a dual-purpose patrol dog. Bosco helped track down hundreds of suspects and assisted in thousands of drug arrests. Bosco retired in 2014. The dog's hips had gone out, and he struggled to walk because of his age. The decision was made to put Bosco down. The department, special vehicles, police officers and citizens joined in a processional escorting Bosco to the veterinarian's office.

Russian Heritage, good luck to you on your rewarding career. My brother was a K9 officer for many years. His loyal partner was Presto, the Belgian Malinois. He was the departments bomb dog. After Presto retired he lived with my brother for many years until he passed away. You will find no greater, more loyal friend than your K9 partner.

When you love your dog you will do anything and pay any amount of money to keep them with you for as possibly long as you can. Years ago we had to say goodbye to our amazing 12 year old Lab. I asked our Vet how long we had with her and when would we know to stop. She told us we would be able to just look in her eyes to see when it was time. One October morning she looked at me and I knew that it was time to let her go. I saw that same look in Bosco's eyes when they were putting him on the stretcher.

it is hard to say goodbye to a pet and a partner where you worked with all the time. I had 2 dogs and 4 cats put down to sleep in the 22 years i lived at home and with my husband. Lately we dont have pets put down. But we have a shi tzu 9 years old. It is a question how long this dog will live. I hope another 10 years. But we cant tell. It is hard to lose a member of the family that you raised from pup or kitten.
