The name Kadamakudy came from the Malayalam words Kadannal Kudungi, which means that once you step foot on the island, it's not so easy to leave this place. This is true with us the villagers, because of the abundant fish life, the paddy fields, and organic farms, we rarely have to move out of the village. Also, the travelers who come to the islands get pulled back because of the spectacular scenery, the calmness of a remote village, and the unending water bodies around the island.
Things to Do
Kadamakudy is the meeting point of the Periyar River, bringing in the rich minerals all the way from the Western Ghats hill stations, which transforms into Vembanad Lake bringing in the seawater from the Arabian Sea. This unique ecosystem helps the mangroves to grow abundantly and is home to a wide variety of common and migratory bird life and fish species. The variation in tidal current gives Kadamakudy a dynamic landscape and all this adds to the excitement for exploring our unique Village.
You can explore our islands on canoes. From a short 1 hour cruise to overnight packages, we have a very interesting set of tours to fit in your time availability, cost, and convenience.
