I got my wife one of these for Christmas some years ago and she loves it. She saw one at a gunshow while we were walking around and immediately fell in love with it. She mostly uses it when foraging, as it works great as a machete to trim back thorns and small branches and it cleans easily from harvesting and trimming mushrooms. She's also used it to dispatch a few snakes and a chicken or two.

This is the definition of the knife hobby. What a good video. My latest guilty pleasure is making a really basic scandinavian knife sort of like a Helle Viking and feeling ripples of history coming through my hand every time I pull it out of the sheath. It's as if you're holding a thousand years in your hand.

Pete, you had me cracking up with this one! I've watched you for years and this was a different format than anything I recall you doing. My first thought was.....are you okay? 😂. I wondered if you'd had too much cold medicine or maybe were just in a weird place in your head when you decided to make this video. But regardless, I really enjoyed it! The rambles and montages were fantastic! As for LARPING, I often 'dress up' in full kit and run shooting drills in my house with my Mantis Blackbeard trainer. Why? Because I enjoy it! Is it ridiculous? Absolutely! I think we all need to come to terms with the simple fact that we all have things we enjoy that others think are ridiculous and just get on with it! And if you really want to know what knives the military uses ask Karl the Tactical Rifleman here on KZbin, him and his buddies can tell you at least in regards to a few countries and a few military branches. Good on you Pete, keep doing what you're doing! I've been enjoying all the knife content you've been putting out again after your brief time away

Most guys I served with preferred knives significantly smaller than a standard KaBar, and the Gerber Airframe things made basically out of cheese were by far the most popular. They'll open MREs just fine, and cost almost nothing. The 5" mini-KaBars were decently popular for field knives, though.

Jw did you see any high end knives while serving?
@carlosmorera0924cm Жыл бұрын
@@mr.crumbles2557My bet is probably not, unless it was on some veteran SEAL or RECON marine, most people the join the military are broke and the main priorities when it comes to replacing the GI crap is the boots, underwear, socks and other things that get used on the daily, oh and alcohol, a lot of alcohol, at least according to the veterans and reservists that used to work with me
@Phixeon Жыл бұрын
@@mr.crumbles2557 very seldom. I usually had the "highest end" one, and that was usually just a Benchmade Griptillian. Very, VERY occasionally, someone had something like a Strider, but utility almost always trumped cool factor (and for good reason). I picked one of these up on sale 3 or 4 years ago and at this point I can’t say I’ve ever really used it but I still love the thought of it! In reality and as you said the BK9 or even the BK7 are both far superior and always are first choice when I need some 1095 cro van in my day. Plus in recent years all I can think of when I pick up a knife with these stacked leather handles is DBK snapping them. That said, I always appreciate how thinly ground KaBar makes even their biggest blades and I’m glad they make them for us.

This is why I come here. The enjoyment of knives of all types but the grounded-in-reality attitude. I'm the same way and love big knives, crazy knives, fun knives to go along with all my practical knives. However, I've spent less and less and less time in online knife communities over the years because they've become so LARP'y it's almost embarrassing. What's funny to me is that as the general population carried knives on a daily basis less and less because the need was no longer there, the knife people started carrying bigger and bigger knives and more of them and convinced themselves this is "necessary." What was once considered a full-sized pocket knife is now a "back up blade to my primary carry" in the knife dork and EDC world and their "primary carry" is what people used to consider a work knife or their truck knife or their yard knife. And then these people wonder why people look at them like weirdos when they whip out their Medford folding smatchet at an office party or some huge log splitting tree-felling massive knife on a weekend car camping trip. Again, buy and enjoy what you want, but we've got to stop with this over the top LARPing bs in the knife world.

About ten year ago right after I graduated from You tube University, i decided that I needed to get some SHTF stuff. So, among other things I purchased a K-Bar. Why?I don't know. It looks cool. My dad was a marine. I was in the army. About once a year, while sorting things out, I run across this knife; still in it's original packaging looking as cool and unblemished as the day I bought it. Whenever a K-Bar shows up in a zombie movie; I freeze the frame and point the knife out to my wife, "Look dear, we have one of those," to which she sardonically responds, "that's good."
