So here it is the most awaited story of Jim Corbett's toughest hunt we present you the story of The Rudraprayag Man-Eater. So this time I have kept my own voice & have not edited my voice in any other form.
According to Carpet Sahab, The Man-Eating Leopard of Rudraprayag was “not against the laws of nature, but against the laws of man”.
The Leopard of Rudraprayag was a male man-eating leopard, reputed to have killed over 125 people. It was eventually killed by a hunter and author Jim Corbett.
The leopard, preferring human flesh, would break down doors, leap through windows, claw through the mud or thatch walls of huts and drag the occupants out before devouring them. According to official records, the leopard killed over 125 people. However, Corbett notes that the number of deaths was probably higher due to unreported kills and deaths due to injuries sustained in attacks.
Units of Gurkha soldiers and British soldiers were sent to track it but failed. Attempts to kill the leopard with high-powered gin traps and poison also failed. Several well-known hunters tried to capture the leopard and the British government offered financial rewards. All of this, however, ended in failure. In the autumn of 1925, Jim Corbett took it upon himself to try to kill the leopard, and, after a ten-week hunt, he successfully did so on 2 May 1926.

I have read all of his books on man-eaters and let me tell you the narrative style he had is just amazing, you get transported to that time when Jim Corbett was hunting these dangerous man-eaters on foot and you keep getting goosebumps while going through the book. I am from a village in Nainital district, and have been raised amid wildlife stories by my elders. This story was recited to me by my uncle. It's equally thrilling as the man eater of Kumaon, only difference is that this leopard killed around 50 people and the tiger killed around 500 🧐😮😯😱

Did you know: The nainital Mountain ranges are same ranges which stretches from Jim Corbett park, Ramnagar. So, certain animals from the sanctuary often travel deep into Kumaon ranges which is further streched till Nepal.

Yes, brother. The entire Shivalik belt is connected to the Himalayas. With Nepal, the Kali Nadi divides the 2 countries but it's the same hill range that is running in Nepal as well. Chitwan National Park is also connected to these hills. 🙏

I visited Rudraprayag a few years back and witnessed the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini. We went down to the bank and sat on the stairs of the ghat. I never knew the story of Man eater leopard back then. Then a very close friend of mine who is from Munger recommended reading "the man eaters of Kumaon". I was introduced to the man-eater leopard of Rudraprayag. Jim Corbett as a writer is unparalleled. I imagined the Rudraprayag ghat and shivers ran down my body. According to me, the leopard is the most cunning & smartest of all animals. He is an agent of darkness. A leopard can wait for hours to test the ground for him to put his foot down. Sorry to hear about what happened with your cattle. In our country, the leopard population is quite high & even the cases too. 🙏

Here in uttarakhand man eater is currently active in duggada which 50km down from my place you can search I think he killed 1 women 4-5 days back and almost 3-4 killed he already done.. As of now Humne chote se jim Corbett sir ki books and story's suni hai.. Aaj v agar koi raat ko unki books padhle toh wo ghar se bahar ni niklega uttarakhand main.. Because sab kuch sach likha hai unhone Here in my place Lansdowne leopards are totally roaming freely in nights

I know about Duggada brother. I have uploaded a vlog also regarding the man-eater of duggada a few month's back. He was called "Pujari". It's an old story but a scary one. Do watch it. Uttarakhand has recorded the highest attacks done by leopards in our country. Leopard has got a fantastic habit in terms of Uttarakhand. He prefers living on heights and Uttarakhand is quite above sea level from most of the places in the north-eastern part of our country.

After reading the Book, It hard to believe The Leopard wasn't Possessed by Dark Force. Even a Navy Seal American Soldier can't be such Sneaky Mastermind and Kills 125 people and terrorize the Whole Region for 8 years...That too in Broad Daylight and Even Killing People in the middle of 50 people.......Its Like the Leopard Always aware of who was the most Vulnerable in the Huge area of 50 squar miles and Always went for the easy prey. Like how he knows ? He was Omniscient CAT.

He's the most cunning animal in the animal kingdom. A leopard can wait for hours to make the correct move toward its prey. The leopard of Rudraprayag was something else, people did call him a ghost as no one knew when he would come & kill. Opening house doors & without making a sound killing people this cat surely gave the people of Rudraprayag the ultimate fear. Corbett Sahab himself said that this was the only animal that scared me to death. 🙏 I hope you enjoyed the story, ma'am.

I went to CORBETT park it was a nice trip but It was my misfortune that I didn't see any tigers there. Went to Sitamani twice but on both the occasions we saw only deer and some hill birds.

No worries you will get to see the tiger one day. A lot of people have come back without any tiger sightings. It's part of the game. Tigers are masters of camouflage that's why they are not easily spotted in the wild. I hope that next time you get to see a tiger.
