Scene 1- Bird is sitting on line Then due to equipotential surface, no current flows in the body of bird Scene 2- Bird body comes in contact with two lines Though both lines carry power at same voltage level , there is phase difference of 120deg between two phases This will cause Short Circuit through body of bird and it will burn out Scene 3- Bird touches one line and metal pole In this case line to ground fault occurs and bird will burn out too Note: I am an electrical engineer working in switchyard and power plant 🙏🏻 Current flow takes place then there is potential difference or same voltage but phase difference is there

If electric current is flowing through a wire means electric potential is continuously dropped along the flow, how can you say it is an equipotential surface. Although due to small gap between legs, it will be a small potential difference.

@sakshamanand137 Hi buddy... This is no simple wire but it's distribution line wire and power distribution channel has 3 wires in total ... The wire you're talking about has constant voltage from distribution station to your home ... so this wire or line ( wire containing an electrical power) is called an equipotential line. The 3 lines together is called as distribution ; line or channel Yes you are correct that there would be an ohmic loss but it is not significant enough ( as a metal very close to high conduction is used instead of something which inoccurs a significant voltage drop for a very small distance; lets say ◇x = 10 cm; the difference almost equivalent to average distance between legs for any bird ) to cause any electrocution as the PD between bird legs is negligible.

Bird's feet are very near, so there is very small potential difference, current flow is there through their bodies, though very less. If they touch something with very low potential or negative potential then potential difference becomes high and large current passes through them.
