@Jan Dzwończyk yes you try to make sense and explain you are not the first one..... learn the true history...if you are mostly Polish ethnic I can see why you would not identify with Ukraine.. ..why you have such a negative felling towards Ukrainians is because of what you were taught......Our "lemko people "(they did not call themselves Lemko and those in Slovakia LEmko vilalges did not get deported as part of the ethnocide 1944-1951 ) including my own family were deported to USSR in 1946. I know that there is a huge identity crisis caused by politics(.by Moscow,./Poland/ Hungary etc) and you are not the only one who is so confused. This song video it is Ukrainian song with dialect ... Ukrainians used to be called Rusyny (latin Ruthenians) they were Orthodox people but Poles and others .tried to latinize (hence Greek Catholic) just as Moscow tried to Russify.... It persists to this day. Do not blame anyone for being confused. Any one who knows the history of our people and still calls themselves "Polish Lemkos" still does not understand.at all or just became part of the intended assimilation .. What village was your father.s family from originally?

@Jan Dzwończyk The lemko lands once part of the kingdom Kyiv RUS...people .lived their lives the best they could...and then gradually Moscow and Poland sought out with intent together to divide our people ...even many years later after our people were gone== Poland once again brought it Moscow to divide our people (those few that were left for example in Komancza ) with bringing in the Moscow patriarchy Orthodox Church to the Greek Catholics which the Poles shut down the Greek Catholic Church. . Now there was the original Greek Catholic Church where my family attended that was closed but Poland gave it to Moscow....later a Greek Catholic Church was built . 2 Churches and people divided by politics !........he original post regarding the song Temna Nichka/Temna Niczka the words are Ukrainian. Have you ever heard the Ukrainian language?. I speak Ukrainian so I know that this is a Ukrainian song. I have also visited the "Lemko "lands and everywhere I hear those people who are ancestry "Lemko"who live there I understand everything they say.........but ...Oh my God! what you just posted.....you have so much to learn but that takes an open mind and what you write is absolutely what typical Polish close minded person that never admits to true facts. ex. you are wrong about the deportations since they were already planned by Hitler and Stalin when the war started in 1939. The UPA was not even in Poland until the end of the war.in 1945.and the deportations had nothing to do with the UPA..It was to get rid of the Ukrainians from Poland..racism.. ethnic cleansing....Akcija Wisla cruel finished this off on 1947 you can read facts of what it was like for our people at the hands of the Poles .so sad...The Poles throughout history ruled the Ukrainian people for 4 centuries with intent of oppression and full assimilation. The UPA were freedom fighters who wanted freedom and had had enough suffering at the hands of the cruel Polish rulers for so so long..... If you want to hear what the so called Christian Poles did to our people very horrific I will send you the memoirs and documents etc. including those of my family, my mother was born there. But not on this post. Talk about propaganda, the Russians and Poles have filled up the internet with lies so ridiculous that it will be impossible forever to set the true facts. Poland never admits and apologizes to what they did to our people. There are many Ukrainians in Poland,Slovakia, Romania, Serbia etc etc who are proud of who they are. we were forced , scattered all over the world and have lost our homeland forever but our identity did not die for those who care about it. What village was your father's family from? Also have you ever heard of the Komancza/Wislok Republic?

Kayetanowicz Many Lemkos all over the world and those living in Ukraine are insulted by your introduction above. You have omitted that in Serbia, Poland, Slovakia they are regarded as national minorities because they are different in ethnos, culture, traditions, language, religion. But with regard to Ukraine, Lemkos are of Ukrainian ethnos just as each country had regional variations, so has Ukraine. Unfortunately they have been removed from their own lands which are now emptied of Lemkos. Ukrainians of Lemko origins mourn the loss of their ancestral homeland. LEMKOS are Ukrainian. That is what the majority claim. A pity a small group are dividing this wonderful people away from their brothers and sisters!!!

Yes, in the same way Americans are not a part of English nation. But linguistically, American English (or American-British if you just hate the word "English") is a dialect of English.
@ka82yetan4 жыл бұрын
First, there is no strict border between a language and a dialect. Moreover many contemporary examples show that linguistics doesn't matter as much as identity. That's why Serbs, Croats, Bosnians and Montenegros claim they have different languages, although in the Yugoslavia time they spoke one Serbo-Croatian language and for many linguists they still speak dialects of the same language. There are much more examples just alone in Europe. I mean Moldavian vs Romanian, Makedonian vs Bulgarian. In the XIX c. Ukrainian was treated as a "little" Russian dialect.

Rusyns (in Latin Ruthenes) was a name for all Ukrainians prior to 18th century. And Kiev (today capital of Ukraine) was considered as main Rusyn city. For example, in medieval Gesta Hungarorum from 13th century: "Of Ruś [Ruthenia] Arriving in the lands of the Rusyns [Rutenorum], they reached the city of Kiev [Kyeu] without any opposition and, as they passed through the city of Kiev, crossing the river Dnieper [Deneper], they sought to conquer the realm of the Rusyns [Rutenorum]. Then the dukes of the Rusyns [Rutenorum] , learning of this, feared greatly because they had heard that Duke Álmos, son of Vgek, was of the line of King Attila, to whom their forefathers had every year paid tribute. Nevertheless, the duke of Kiev [Hyeu] and all the leaders, having gathered and taken counsel among themselves, decided that they should do battle with Duke Álmos and that they preferred to die in war than to forfeit their own realms and be subjected against their will to Duke Álmos. Forthwith, the duke of Kiev, despatching envoys, asked the seven dukes of the Cumans, his most faithful friends, for help."

@@bigfinger3690 I read your comment and gave you some real counterexamples to point that the world is complicated and there is no one pattern you substitute any variables. I've heard the arguments you use milion times from Ukrainians. That's why I'm not very willing to discuss about it once again. The matter isn't the name, the matter is identity. The core 'rus' is in the names Belorus (pol. BiałoRUSIN), Russian (ruskij) and there are three nations (the fourth are the Carpatho-Rusyns) who draw from the tradition of the old Rus. Best regards.
@bigfinger36904 жыл бұрын
Carpatho-Rusyns are descendents of medieval Ukrainian gastarbeiters migrated to Hungary and Poland. Ruthenian historian Paul Robert Magocsi agrees that: " The largest number of Rusyns did not come [to Transcarpathia] until after the thirteenth century, however, again from Galicia and Podolia and often at the request of the Hungarian government anxious to protect its northern frontier by settling it with people. " And second, I'm not a Ukrainian so this time you have a priviledge to hear this truth from a Pole.
