The lady dancer, Madhuri Dixit, is a classically trained dancer, and is showcasing one of India's traditional dance styles, Kathak. They dance with ankle bells and bare feet, because rhythm plays a big role, and the dancer's footfalls going with the rhythm of the music, and playing in and out of the rhythm showcases the dancer's skill. In this scene, it's the first time SRK is taken to the red light district, where courtesans entertain men with singing and dancing. The scene where you guys are talking about - on the balcony, you can see other dancing halls in the distance. This is also why SRK doesn't look pleased to be there, he was taken there by his friend to get over his heartbreak, and is still all prim and proper, though, yes, heartbroken lol. And him being a newcomer to the place is also why Madhuri teases him at first with her dupatta, lol.

dude, there is nothing right or wrong, there are strip bars in the west and trust me the dancers are hard working and do it to support themselves. Just yesterday some ah*()* shot at a dancer in UP who stopped while dancing at a wedding. He shot at her face, luckily it hit her job and she is out of danger but I am pretty sure it would mess up her face shape. Whike the darbar thing is an Islamic concept where courtesans danced, the dance form Kathak actually developed centuries ago and its inscriptions are seen in temples where it has been used to showcase Krishan radha,durga etc.Hence the dance form was for a completely different purpose

The lady dancer here is not the woman whom SRK loves and is pining for. She is a high class courtesan and is enamored by SRK while he is down in the dumps thinking of his beloved . He’s here at the dancer’s home because his friend sitting next to him has coaxed him into coming to this place. This movie is a classic and has been adapted from a novel written sometime in 1910. I would seriously recommend you to watch this movie........it’s sets, songs, music were fabulous. This movie was released in 2002 and still draws people to watch the songs and dances over and over again. This movie has been made 8 times since 1928......I’m not joking......people still flock to the theaters to watch this movie !

The background history is Shahrukh is a highly educated person who is under depression for being forced to break up with his childhood love due to caste discrimination. His friend drags him to this place (equivalent to Red light district) for the 1st time to help him get over his loneliness and depression but Shahrukh is ashamed of being at such a place. The dancer (Madhuri Dixit) is by far one the best female dancer in Bollywood and the dress she's wearing is about 25-30 kgs. The dance by itself requires a lot of skill and many years of "meditative practice" and the weight of everything on her dress, jewelry makes it astronomically difficult to dance.

The video is set in a brothel, a classy version I guess. Madhuri plays a courtesan, she’s dancing and singing for their entertainment. The words are flirtatious, they don’t translate well into English as there’s a lot of idioms and metaphors, it’s written in a poetic style. SRK has recently lost his love here which is why he looks uncomfortable being there, Madhuri was trying to get his attention. 😬

She lived in Colorado and raised her 2 sons there for a few years. Her husband is a surgeon. They all recently returned to a India to continue her music career. She is basically telling a story through her song and enacting the song in her dance. It doesn't have to do with SRK. Its like a lyrical recital with dance. Indian classical dances enact stories from their texts, or love ballads. In this case it was a love ballad. And the people sitting down were watching her lyrical story telling and her expressions. I hope that helps with the confusion. Its a one man/woman show....they will play all the characters in the song through their expressions. Thats why you see the female lead being so expressive with her eyes...looking off in the distance, because she thinks she hears her lover etc. Or the part where she is suggesting the breaking of her bangles, because the lover holds her wrists from the back. Telling a story of a woman in love which the female lead is playing through her dance.

It’s a semi classical ..song ..classical kathak dance ...it’s one of the form of dance of our country ....the set up is of a courtesan....in ancient times it was one of the entertainment source for rich ppl ...and of kings ....which continued till British era ....and still exists but rare to find ...now here ...as the main lead which is SRK lost his love who got married that is ahsiwarya ...got dishearten and came here with one of his friend with disinterest but here the courtesan which is Madhuri ...liked him ..and started teasing and entertain him ....which he naturally dislikes ....this movie is an adaptation of one of the classical and treasure of India ...DEVDAS ...written by Shri. Sarat Chandra Chatterjee ....in 1900 ..but published in 1917 ...this movie is the fourth movie ...three were made earlier ...two in Hindi ..and one in Bengali ...just FYI
