I enjoyed that very much, thank you! Here is a short calculation. From 1906 (from where the original film comes from) to 2017 = 101 years. Suppose there are 1000 people at least moving through those streets, we come to roughly 365000 people per year. But there is more - suppose 10000 people each day. Then we come to roughly 3, 6 million a year and in 100 years 365 million. I guess even that number is pretty low - by tripling the number we come to more than 1 billion. In other words - in 100 years there are maybe 11% of world population of 2020 moving through San Francisco streets! Whether more or less - I find such approach amazing and funny! Greetings from Germany!

It was free atmospheric energy, see the little balls on top of the trams and most of the buldings, lamps etc .. not to mention the one at the end on the little domed building where the turntable thing is, check global vision videos for reference. This was 4 days before the fire/eq destroyed most of the city including most of what you see here as very few buildings remain compared to what was. Now this place like many other cities looked absolutely awesome architecturally and wide open uncluttered and free back then.

The old film you see was only 4 DAYS before the GREAT S.F. EARTHQUAKE IN 1906! So everything you see, with the exception of the clock tower and I'm not even sure if that was rebuilt or not, was destroyed either by the quake or by the fires afterward.

@@matthatter2849 No worries - it's hard to see the facades with the grainy footage, let alone compare them to today's scene. I love SF history and I walk or ride streetcars on Market Street every day, so these are just details I've learned over time. It's interesting to compare how intact the Victorian neighborhoods are that surround downtown (the Mission the Haight, the Castro, the Western Addition) because the wood buildings rode out the quake better than brick and stone buildings...except for the brick buildings in Jackson Square, that somehow did not crumble.
@pauleypavillion60887 жыл бұрын
Market street today reeks of sewage due to street bums and drug abusers. That whole street has been taken over by these bums and derelicts. No good to even visit market street due to animal gangs infesting and out to commit horrible crimes. Its been disgusting since the 1990's.

You don't think it smelled like sewage in 1906, when horses still pooped in the street and many people still used outhouses and chamber pots? Come on, think, dude... Also opium (heroin), alcohol, and other drugs were abused just as rampantly if not more back then too. Heroin wasn't banned til 1924, and Coca-Cola had cocaine in it! Use your brain!! Or at least Google!! Drugs and bums weren't invented in the 1990's, that's just the limit of your knowledge of history
