The fact that max said he’s been listening to bands like Kublai Khan and Jesus Piece for influence on the next Soulfly makes me super excited that’s it’s gonna absolutely destroy

I still remember meeting Iggor at Utopia records when he first come to Sydney Australia for a surfing trip . This was before Sepultura come to Australia. Not long after that Sepultura come to Australia touring Arise and then the second time for Chaos A D .. Thanks Max and Iggor for the excellent memories and making my life so much better back then with your excellent music! \m/

No way mate, that's awesome! Utopia would have been on George St back then eh, on the Metro Theatre side? Unless it was somewhere else before I started going there?

I met them on that first tour here, at Metal For Melbourne 1992. I couldnt believe how short they were. I was 16 and towering over them 🤣😂. great guys though, English not great but super happy to hang with their fans. the show later that night was ferocious. best thrash metal band, period. @GrindDownUnder

I'm with ya Max, people need to get off their damn phones, you need to be contactable 24/7 or need the internet 24/7? No way. Even if someone needed you in an emergency you probably wouldn't get there in time anyway, so ditch the damn phones people.

22:14 Max along with Dino Cazares and Phil Anselmo always have flown the flag of metal and never apologized for doing so! There's been too many people who were in metal bands who seemed half embarrassed or didn't want to be called a metal band while they produced unmistakingly metal music. It's fine to like other types of music, but to be embarrassed to be called metal, or to consistently only promote other genres at the expense of your own was always bizarre to me, if ya don't like metal, why be in a metal band? I could have days where I'm hungover or have a headache and not in the mood for metal, but it won't be long before I'm cranking some Slayer. So anyway, thanks Max for always flying that metal flag high!

Max hits home here. I loved those original albums. I had them on cassette. Of course, I only had them after I discovered Sepultura because of Headbangers Ball playing Dead Embryonic Cells a lot. Arise and even Beneath the Remains had great production quality so I was always wishing those earlier records could have had the same treatment. Hearing these albums re-recorded fulfills a wish a young teenage me in the late 80s/early 90s always wanted so I am quite happy about this. AND... on top of that the Cavaleras can likely keep more of the royalty for their artistic contribution vs the terrible % rates they were giving back in the 80s. Its ultimately justice for the art and for the artists.

The 1st EP and 2 full length Sepultura albums are master pieces! That 1st ep and LP , are so raw heavy total death metal, than schizophrenia is a mid paved thrash masterpiece. Love the re rerecordings , all of them, there still raw as fuck but sound Louder with booming bass! Perfect loud Inna car. I listen to 3 rerecordings all the time.

Yeah man these recording sound so alive with conviction. This is not pointless or a waste of time and because their still fast, aggressive, and energetic. Can't wait for my vinyl copy. Love the two music videos that they release. They capture the 80's so well it's amazing.

Loved the interview, I enjoy your format, and Max Cavalera is such a solid guy... This time however I have to point out something that for me falls in the "elephant in the room" category I'm afraid. Sepultura are doing their farewell tour. They have said not a word about having former members appearances, which I think would be a great act of respect towards the fans and their own legacy. In particular, the fact that the word "Cavalera" hasn't even been mentioned, I think it's criminal. I understand that maybe they are in such awful terms that just want to gaslight each other... but you don't have to, I think here perhaps you lost a unique opportunity to pick Max's brain about that tour, after all the official end of the band that was his biggest "baby". This omission confuses me a little; perhaps Max himself told you that the subject was off limits? Great interview anyway, keep them coming...

Thank you! Happy to know you enjoyed it. :) I have a different approach for interviews, more personal and not talking about former bands or too much about the past. My goal is always to make the guest feel comfortable with our chat, and I think it worked.

I think max denied it because he wants to get out off all the negativity and bad memories with the old band Sepultura.
