4. Functionalist perspective of Talcott Parsons on Religion performing the Function of Latency which includes Pattern Maintenance And Tension Management.
6. Structural Functionalist perspective of R K Merton on Religion.
7. Max Weber on Religion and His major work of Protestant Ethics and Spirit of Capitalism.
8. Naturism and Religion by Max Mueller and Andrew Lang.
9. Evolutionary theory of Religion by E B Tylor and his perspective on Animism as a form of Religion.
10. Auguste Comte on Religion and the Law of three stages and his concept of Positive Religion and Religion of Humanity.
11. Phenomenology of Religion and Interactionist perspective on Religion by Peter Berger and his concept of Nomos and Cosmos, Plausibility Structure of Religion and Sacred Canopy.

Sir I'm just completed my 12th class and I started preparing UPSC I don't have any idea about UPSC how to crack it... Yesterday I was thinking of sociology and I started searching on KZbin I just got this lecture and I started watching this and I realised if you teach all gs papers then it'll definitely very helpful for students like me who started as newbies... Basically I'm from medical background by forcing... But my dream is to crack UPSC... good evening sir if que ask.1.give an assesment of Durkheimian notion of sacred in religion here do we have to asses or explain in depth also sir religious practices of the particular country asked then do we have to write religious practices of all religion in country and what it constitutes just points will be enough.

1. Explain the nature of sacred and how man relates to it... How it shapes society.... How it shapes Division of Labour.... How it produces unity/solidarity....essentially, Talk about Durkheim' s perspective on religion.... In assessment, also include counter perspectives/critics (marxists, merton dysfunctions)/contemporary view... Link it to other perspectives that I covered in unit of Religion....you could also link it to civil religion....It all depends on you.... And how you are building your arguments 2. Yes... Major Religions... Or Dominant Religious Practices... Also, Link them to Socialisation,Patriarchy, Functionalist, marxist, weberian, post modern views, caste, class, politics etc.... Depends how question is framed and how you want to respond to it.

sir in marxist perspective " religion is a part of superstructure which legitimises and strenghtens the condition present in the economic infrastructure " sir how can marxist say this because karl marx said base shapes superstructure it was weber who said reverse is also possible

Marx said that base determines superstructure and in turn superstructure legitimises the base..... For eg. Marxists say that Protestantism is a by product of capitalist MOP or Protestantism emerged due to capitalism.... And in turn Protestantism propounds doctrines/principles which legitimises/strengthens capitalism...... What weber is saying is different... Weber is arguing that it's possible that Protestantism contributed to rise of capitalism in the west!!

I would suggest you to buy PYQ book for prelims as well as mains... That's a good ROI... For socio PYQs, you could buy vishal publications, I am not sure about others... For prelims, buy any book containing PYQs, won't matter that much!!
