As a South Asian and someone who has watched and listened to the original version of this song growing up, this is a proud representation moment for my culture, my people, and I. This song was released in 2001, in a Bollywood (indian) film called Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (which in English means "Sometimes joyful, sometimes sorrowful") and has been iconic among the South Asian population since then. To see it used in an american TV show after so many years is def a step in the right direction in the representation of South asians in Hollywood. Thank you Bridgerton and Kris Bowers.

@@Shrivalli6927 No. It's an American show, set in Britain. The country of origin for a show is based on the creators and producers, but more importantly the productio company (Netflix), not where the show is set. Otherwise, we'd say Lost in Translation is a Japanese film or Anna Karenina (2012) is a Russian film. That's also one of the reasons why we categorized Minari as an American film, despite it's use of a foreign language.

hearing this rendition during the show made me literally tear up idk why, it's just seeing south asian representation, especially in a period piece- plus seeing a darker skinned indian woman be the main love interest for the story is just incredible to me. also i realized that kate and edwina's mother's love story was very similar to rahul's love story in K3G in regards to falling in love with and marrying a "commoner" and being estranged from disapproving parents because of that. i'm just so happy for the representation as well as the beautiful arrangement of this piece.

I'll be honest, when this came on in the show, I was struck by lightning. All my childhood memories came flooding back to me in a rush. Endless Bollywood Nights spend in the small secluded guest room infront of the TV with my mum watching the songs and colors and dances of 2000s Bollywood Era. How I crushed so hard on Hrithik Roshan as a 10-year-old, my little brain could not even comprehend. How the gold, the glitter, the colors, the emotions and the story just tore me away into this beautiful dream world. And here I was sitting as a 25-year on my bed, watching this and been hit by all of it. And I started to cry. Because it was so beautiful. Because of being reminded of a time long gone, 15 years ago, I hadn't thought of it in ages, back when all was still well and life was just that much easier. When none of all of what I have to fight against now on a daily basis mattered. Because it did not exist. Because I was a child. Because I was happy. And I cried ... and was happy.

I couldn't believe myself when this version came on in the episode, especially in the Haldi Ceremony setting! I can't describe the emotions that it invoked in me, I mean here's a song we've all grown up listening to and for it to suddenly come wrapped up in such a beautiful way and setting, suffice to say I was overwhelmed with emotion. So new and different, yet preserving the essence of the old. Now that is how a fusion should be made! Loved it!❤
