Something you don't hear in the TV commentary here is how a very mobile qb is infinitely harder to block for, since he could be anywhere. It is easier for the o line if they know where the qb is. The biggest pro of QBs who can really run with the ball is that they're sooooo hard to defend. But the biggest con is that they can take too many hits. Its super important that they learn how to 1) avoid hits and 2) brace for and minimize impact when they are hit. Some guys like Russel Wilson and Donovan McNabb are/were able to do that and are having/had incredible careers. But guys like RG3 just got hit so often that he got hurt so often and eventually his body just disallowed him from playing.

RG III got hurt because a lineman fell on his knee after he went down, not because he took a big hit. It was the kind of injury that can and does happen to everyone. In pro sports, the tried and true old scouts asses talent is so ingrained, it's hard to change. Baseball is the same way. Watch the movie Moneyball starring Brad Pitt or read the book of the same title. It's how Billy Beans, the GM of the Oakland A's in the early 2000's forever changed the way baseball teams evaluated talent. His methods were bitterly fought by his own team but it produced a team that won a American League record 20 game winning streak even though they had no high profile star players. Many other teams have adopted a similar system to his and achieved even greater success.

Yes change does not come quick in the NFL . All of the innovations come up from college FB to the NFL . There are many different types of offensive/defensive systems in college. Its often out of necessity because the NFL can pick players to fit their system but in college sometimes you have to fit a systems to the players you have . TO watch teams with such contrasting systems is what makes college FB so fun to watch. But the NFL is extremely detailed/complexed in what they do and filled with new adjustments all the time . And eventually they do borrow new schemes from college. Examples like no huddle offense, RPOs (run pass option), ect....and recently the cardinals are implementing the college "Air Raid" offense.

I was huge Lamar fan even in Louisville (not a Louisville fan tho) something about Lamar going into the draft was that he was an inaccurate passer. Over his years in the NFL he has gotten better through the air year after year. He is now an average-above average passer. But because he is such a great runner being an average-above average passer is scary. Think of Vick very similar players (strong arm, average accuracy, lightning fast, extremely shifty)
@kabirconsiders3 жыл бұрын
A few people have said that in big games sometimes he can’t be relied on. Is there any truth to that?
@CMP_183 жыл бұрын
@@kabirconsiders Not really, although in his first playoff game he was awful. He fumbled like 3 times and was booed off of field. His second playoff appearance they went 1 and done again. Derek Henry ran for about 200+ yards nothing Lamar can do since he is a QB and not a Linebacker 😂. His third year and this present year, he got his first win against the Titans (who he loss to the year before). He loss to the Bills the next week after getting injured. So it isn’t all of his fault. He doesn’t have a number 1 receiver he can trust to catch the ball. His #1 receiver is a deep threat so not much of a 1 on 1 jump ball player. Football is a team sport and when the whole team doesn’t show up you lose, that’s the situation with Lamar. The thing is that the QBs always get most of the blame

The NFL is one of the most conservative organizations on the planet. They have an irrational fear of any kind of change. Most coaches would rather go 3-13 than take a chance with a non-standard offensive scheme. It isn't just mobile quarterbacks. Most teams wouldn't take a chance with Drew Brees because he was only 6'0" tall. They take athletes like Vince Young and force them to play in schemes that eliminate most of their strengths. Running QB's get injured is their mantra. The only player who is almost impossible to replace.

Part of the problem for this young man is durability. Most QBs that run a lot end up having short careers cause they get hit a lot and well they do not tend to slide and not take a hit. It looks like he has a sweet throw now. Most do not last as long as Vick. There was a QB there was a QB that came out of Baylor University and signed with the Washington Redskins that had a decent arm but had World Class speed in the 400 so he tended to run also. I think in his 3rd season he got a knee hurt and had to have knee surgery and when he got back on the field after rehab. he had a rough time and and ended up getting a knee hurt again. If I remember right it was not enough to have surgery but it effected him enough they ended up either trading him or letting him go. He was not playing after five or six seasons I believe.

Kabir, Lamar isn't the first QB with this incredible ability to run and accurately pass the football. Other QB's who were big run threats all failed to win consistently in the playoffs or a Super bowl. (And so far so has Lamar.) Consequently, most coaches, General Managers, and owners still seem to prefer conventional QB's that stand in the pocket and primarily pass the ball and not run it. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Big Ben Roethlisberger etc... are all conventional QB's that very seldom run the ball. Running the football exposes QB's to big hits from much bigger and more powerful defensive players. QB's are typically tall, thinner, less muscular guys where defensive players are heavily muscled, as are running backs like Sequon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Christian Mc/Caffery, Ezekiel Elliot etc. **Patrick Mahomes might be the lone exception of a QB who is also a threat to run the ball. He does it on occasion but no were near as often as Lamar. And lastly... The QB position is THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION ON THE TEAM..... PERIOD!!! Teams invest hundreds of millions of dollars into this position. (Patrick Mahomes 10 yr 503 million, Dak Prescott 4 yr 160 million, Deshaun Watson 4 yr 156 million, Aaron Rodgers 4 yr 134 million, Russell Wilson 4 yr 140 million.) More than any other position. The last thing you want to see is your franchise QB end up injured, with a season or career ending injury from running the ball. The drop off from the starting QB to the the second string QB is massive on most teams. (Probably like goalies in soccer.) The list of promising young QB's who lit up Div 1 college football is endless. Many have limited success or no success in the NFL and have very short uneventful careers. College success does not automatically translate into NFL success at all. Have you ever heard of Johnny Manziel, JaMarcus Russell, Tim Tebow, or Ron Dayne????? Probably not.!!! From college royalty, to NFL rubbish!!!!😂😂😂 You're learning quite a bit about football Kabir. We are going to win you over from rugby very soon!! 😎

You fail to see that most quarterbacks actually get injured in the pocket and not while scrambling. The issue with the college success translating to the NFL is that teams don’t invest in actually making the offense sustainable. Your points are the same points people made about not winning with shooters in the NBA until Stephen Curry changed the league. Think about that.
@Sentient_Blob3 жыл бұрын
Russel Wilson and especially Patrick Mahomes are pretty big running quarterbacks. Other excellent qbs like Allen, Herbert, and Murray also are great runners. The only reason running qbs haven’t had much success until now is because most used running as a crutch and never developed other skills. These modern dual threats can throw the ball as well as run, which is what sets them apart from busts of the past

Believe it or not a Professional football grading company came up with a list of 50 players who they think will be the best 2021 season. 4 or 5 other QB's were on it their list , but Lamar didn't make the list ! PFF = Biased ?

I don’t know which one of our moronic societal camps it was that played the race card back when he was coming into the NFL, but the whole black quarterback stigma is stupid and has been dead for like 30-40 years. Some people like beating the dead horse. He has a rifle of an arm and is smart with the ball, I don’t think many people in their right mind doubted that, but the real argument for him switching positions was that he’s a skinny guy. If you don’t have a good offensive line, the defense will break you down and injuries will pile up, especially with “short” and skinny guys. Most QBs are 220-240...he’s pushing 200 pounds I think. Lots of QBs have been fast and athletic, but he’s cut from a different cloth. It makes sense that a team would want to use his generational talent in a different way. But alas, the Ravens are glad they kept him at QB.

Got to be mental he's a hall if famer for the future I have no doubt he just seems to completely crumble in the big games, rather his form does, if it's mental he hides it well. Yeah the way he swept us through the first playoff game was a master class then like a different player in the next sacked in double figures I think and a considerable amount of intercepted bad passes.
